OKAY I CAN RELATE, I JUST GOT MINE ON ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO OKIE DOKIE LET"S HIT IT. NEVER HAD TEETH PULLED SO I WILL TELL BRACES PROCEDURE...
First Appointment:
They will mold your teeth so that they can examine closer details for the braces. Then or before (mine was before) they will take X-RAYS also to help them better understand details for the braces. They will tell your parents what is going on and have them sign a permission slip.
Second Appointment:
Approximately 1 month later, if your molar teeth are not tall enough for brackets they will place little rubber bands (4 for the maxillary 4 for the mandible) inbetween the molar teeth, trust me this is not painful getting on but boy it will start to hurt about 5 hrs later. And this may make you feel better, you need these for 1-2 weeks, which is much shorter than braces and they hurt alot worst. This is a short (optional) appointment so it will only be about 10 minutes.
Third Appointment (BRACE YOURSELF)
Probably really early in the morning you will high tail your little hiney over to the DDS office and wait forevah, then they will take you back. You will situate your little hiney down and this is a long appointment, approximately 30 minutes to 3 hours. mine was i think 1 hour and 22 minutes. But I only got bottom braces first. They first will clean your teeth and they might put things to keep you from drooling on your lips, they did not with me, then they will place the bands if needed, this is the hard part because they need to find the right size for you, it may cut your gums a little bit so take ibuprofen before your appointment, then they will place bracets, run wires, then place little colored bands ( if you have conventional braces like me) then you are all set, first thing you feel is "DO I HAVE 3 ROWS OF TEETH" I STILL FEEL THAT WAY UGGGG.
YOU ARE WELCOME

The reason is probably because you have too small of a jaw. If some of your teeth are really crooked then they might have to pull the teeth out because there would be no room for the straightened teeth. Braces will hurt for the first 2-3 days to a week, not that bad just make sure you have soft food in the house. I know this because my brother had to have eight teeth pulled (four baby teeth, and then the four adult teeth that would've come in where the baby teeth were) in order for him to have braces. Once his teeth were straightened up you would never be able to tell there was ever a hole. They will give you really strong pain medication, just in case you need it, so don't be worried about that. After 2-3 days you will be fine, just don't suck through a straw, until your doctor says it's okay. Oh yeah, and the reason varies for different people on why they need braces. Hoped that helped
If you have any questions you could ask your dentist, I'm sure he'd be glad to explain.

Calm down, there is nothing to worry about other than the headaches from tightening them every six weeks. The dentist will either give you a shot or like a gel solution to numb your teeth to pull then...you won't feel a thing...Then, with braces, the procedure takes an hour to two, and won't hurt, but will about an hour after wards. They apply a glue to your teeth, and stick the brackets on, then place the wire on top of the brackets, and stretch small rubber bands over each bracket...About the second you get home take some advil, motrin, or another pain killer. It will really start to hurt if you don't. Then have something soft for a meal, like pastina, or well-done rice, or yogurt. The next few days will suck...pain...but just keep taking something {don't overdose though...}. Soon you won't even be able to notice you have them...

Okay...so the extractions are the hardest part of this ordeal...and you have options...one of which is to be sedated during the extractions via conscious sedation, you won't remember a thing afterwards, laughing gas where you basically won't care at the time what they're doing, or just plain novacaine to numb. The pulling itself doesn't hurt at all, you are numb, and can only feel pressure, not a big deal. The main thing with extractions is the post-care...you need to take care of the extraction sites to prevent infection or "dry sockets". Now on to the braces question..
Getting braces is a breeze...no need to worry. When you go in for your consultation, they'll take lots of pictures of you, so that they can examine your face/jaw structure. They'll also do a panoramic xray and another one that shows the entire skull to the neck....they'll do mold of your teeth to view the alignment and how your bite functions.
When you go in to actually get the braces put on, first they usually ask you to brush your teeth..they'll have stations for that. Then they clean the fronts of your teeth. They'll apply a solution called "etching" to the teeth which they leave on for about 30 seconds and then wash off, this allows the brackets to stay in place better. Once that's done, the orthodontist will come and attach the brackets to the teeth..this is done in one of two ways...direct or indirect. Direct means that they do them one by one (that's how mine were done) indirect means that they make a mold of the braces, then insert the mold, shine the light and when they take it out, the brackets are all on, just depends on the dentist. Once they're on, the assistant will put in the archwires, you typically start off with a very weak wire. It doesn't hurt at all when they put your braces on...after a few hours, you'll notice some pressure, and you'll have some soreness the first couple of days...that passes quickly...and the quicker you start chewing, the better, more blood flow will help with the soreness. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh, gosh, have I been there! In 2003, I had the same issue. I had to get 5 of my baby teeth pulled so I could get my braces! They take you to this little clinic thing and they give you an IV in your arm. It takes maybe 30 minutes to an hour.. There is pain, as with any teeth-pulling procedure but it's not deathly pain or anything. They give you lots of gauze. Don't forget to gargle with salt water to help stop bleeding and I would eat Jello and soft cookies and soup until you feel like you can eat harder foods.
With braces, generally, you get spacers first, which do ache. Aspirin and ibeprofeun help alot with it. Then they put this weird kinda sour tasting glue on the little brackets (the squares) and press it to your tooth, then take this weird bright thing to help press it onto your tooth. They do all your teeth except the very last one in the back on your bottom and top teeth. The wire does hurt, but just take some meds and eat soft foods until you adjust. Rubber bands are the most annoying because you know you can take them off. I've had my braces since Sept 2003 and I should be getting them off in Feb of 2007.. They aren't that bad.. really.

I got braces in 3rd grade.. lol, imagine a 3rd grader putting on braces when they hurt on a 10 scale.. they dont hurt dont worry =). The only thing that hurts is when the braces make your teeth move a lil and it gets sore sometimes, only lasts for a day or so, so you cant really eat hard things for that day.. other than that you can handle it.. =)

I can understand your situation, I too was scared when I had to get braces. They don't hurt a whole lot once they go on. It only hurts occasionally when they tighten them (don't worry, they don't crank on them or anything, they just change your archwire and bands....occasionally they have to put springs or something but it just makes you teeth a little sore for 2 days...maybe even one!!!!)
1) You go in for evaluation
2) Go in a couple more times, learn about how to care for braces, nothing is done to your teeth yet.
3) Make a mold of your teeth using plaster stuff and take pictures.
4) One more time...nothing done to your teeth except spacers (little band that go in between your teeth before braces, just be careful you don't floss where they are or chew gum!)
5) Braces go on...it hurts the first time and you can't chew very well....your orthodonist might suggest Advil or something if pain worsens. You may think you will never eat solid food again...but...don't worry...you will. =]
6) Go in for appoitments to get braces tightened...doesn't hurt a lot...only a little sore.
7) Braces come off....feels akward at first, like when you got them off!
8) Get retainer.
Don't worry, it doesn't hurt very much. I was in your situation once and I am doing just fine; just make sure to take care of those pearly whites!!!! (You don't want scarring, decay on your teeth that may form if you don't take good care while braces are on)
Good luck!

you don't feel a thing have you ever heard of anesthetics? this is given to you before teeth are pulled and it blocks the pain. And you don't feel anything when you get braces put on until you get them tightened it doesn't hurt when they tighten them cuz all they do is put a thinner wire on but it only hurts if you try to eat hard food or if you bite down on your teeth it goes away though. To get braces they make a mold of your teeth by putting clay in your mouth then they clue the brackets on and placethe wires it's no big deal calm down

i had braces for three and half years. i had to have my 4 wisdom teeth pulled and two upper teeth pulled. when i got the two uppers removed they used some shots and poked me in the gums with the novacaine. Its kind painful but nothing to worry about. they give you the laffing gas and i was done and didn't even know it. it didn't hurt at all. the same goes for wisdom teeth. but they were way worse. swelling and pressure pain. really getting your teeth pulled isn't as bad as you may think it is. i had basically no pain. having your braces tighten is what hurts. but believe me its all worth it and my dentist tells me i have beautiful teeth all the time.
