They just taste good together. Almost any form of apple tastes good with pork.

I like it myself--no-one else in my family does so we haven't had applesauce in the house for many years---they all prefer to use hp sauce or a mushroom sauce I make with a can of campbell's mushroom soup which I add 1/8 to 1/4 cup of milk & a capful of soya sauce to. mmmmmm good lol

It is just one of those things that seemed to go together like cranberry sauce with turkey, there is no reason other than that...well, it was popularized on a famous Brady Bunch episode back in the early 70s...but it was popular before that

the most appropriate reason is because they compliment each other. there is nothing like a bite of pork followed by a bite of the applesauce...m-m-m-m-m-m-good !!!!!!!!!
