Scientology threatens, kidnaps and leads to death. Consider the following:
• Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage and violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research and findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career and reputation and get her sent either to jail or psychiatric confinement.
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk1.html
• Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront and handle critics and perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”
http://www.xenu.net/archive/disk/fairgame.htm
• Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident and resultantly became mentally unstable, was kidnapped by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment and was allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

lol, its a silly lil cult for rich people who have it all and still have a void to fill and think this is the way to go.
but here is the definition that i got from a scientology website.
The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.
In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.
Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.
again...its stupid in my oppinion.

Yes, you spelled Scientology right. (But not Katie's last name.)
It's a sort of religion -- I'm using that term loosely here -- started by L. Ron Hubbard in the late 1940s.
Something about aliens in space coming here to help people find enlightenment or something. I don't really know.
I do know, though, that Hubbard is quoted as saying that the reason he started Scientology is because "religion is where the money is." That alone is a reason to reject it.

The book it is based on is Dionetics, by L. Ron Hubbard. It is a science fiction book. You can make a cult out of just about anything. There are always mentally disturbed people that will follow.

I am studying Scientology right now. This is what I can tell you..
1. The term Scientology is taken from the Latin word "scio" = knowing in the fullest meaning of the word and the Greek word "logos" =study of. It literally means knowing how to know.
2. It not so much s religion, that tells you what or who to worship, or what is right and wrong. It's more of a philosophy that studies and teach you how to handle the spirit in relationship to itself, others and the world around.
3. The founder L.Ron Hubbard, was a writer, artist, musician and a professional in over 30 different fields. He founded Scientology because he wanted to help people. HE wanted to alleviate their stress, worries and pain. He wanted happiness for all mankind. He traveled the world meeting people of all races, religions, sexual orientation, finding out what about people as people.
4. Scientology teaches that as humans we all have experiences, weather we remember or not that continue to effect our lives. Notice how people have the same problems over and over in life? Scientology gives you the tool and skill to break that cycle and Handel people and experiences that may have been traumatic or cause you to have pain.
5. There is no mass to attend, there is course. Each person takes courses based on their personality and experiences and what they want to gain out of life.
I personally have taken a communication course. In it I learned the basic communication skills and its importance.
I've taken a Personal Integrity and values course, after completing the course I realizes how I let people walk all over me, how I did thing knowly that were harmful to me (unwanted sex, drugs, theft, lies etc) . I never felt wrong or that I would be punished for me "sins". I learned how to recognize them-- the courses require you to write and write and write essays about the experiences you've had that relate to the material. --Once I completed th class I have gained new sense of honesty, respect and integrity- no b/ of what someone told me, but from what I decide for myself.
I took and ups and downs course that helped me deal w/ the roller-coaster effect my life seemed to have. I was up one minute and down the next.
Right now I'm taking a Money course, that is teaching me the fundamentals of money and how to be more succful in life.
I've had positives experiences. Ive come to my own conclusions. I make up my own mind. And after only 3 months, I see a noticeable difference in my life. Not to mention that, after years of drug use (u name it a probably did it) I've been clean, and have not craving to go back to my old party habits. I've studied many religions and philosophy's (Christianity, Buddhism, the Kabbalah, Toltec Wisdom etc) I'm a spiritual person. I do not limit myself to one school of thought. I take in all the positive information, I take the parts that matter and decide for myself.
I would recommend the book Dianetics by L.Ron Hubbard if you are looking for an overview of Scientology. It touches on the thinking behind the it and at the end even provides a few exercises for you to try.

It'a a made-up religion by L. Ron Hubbard, who was a sci-fi author & self-help book author. He believes aliens are behind it all & there are a lot of Hollywood stars who believe in it, not just them.

They believe that we come from space aliens and that is where we got started. They believe that God was really an alien who just come down her and started everything. They are a dangerous lie from hell and don't believe a word they say.
