Take the XD Picture card out of the camera and plug it into the picture card reader on your computer.
Go to "My Computer" where you will find a drive you never had before. Open that and all your pictures will be there.
If you don't have a picture card reader on your computer, I would suggest you buy one. They are quite cheap (less than $30.) and they plug into any USB or USB-2 port.
Otherwise, you need to load the Olympus software into your computer, connect the camera to a USB port with the supplied cable and use the supplied software to download and store the pictures.
A card reader is WAY easier.

Windows XP should definately be able to see the camera. If windows says that a device on the USB has exceeded the expected voltage then there is a problem with either the cable or the camera or both. I recommend getting a USB card-reader. That is the cheapest alternative and you can use it with as many different cards as you can find - some offer up to 8 different types of cards.
They should cost somewhere between $15 and $30.

I hate Olympus cameras! You should seriously think about getting a canan or sony. Not that! I've had that before and I hated it!!!

As for your questions, plug in the cord to the usb slot, and you should just be walked through the rest of it..Good luck!
