I bought the HDMI - DVI cable believing I would be able to use my tv as my monitor for my laptop. The laptop did not have a DVI output so I bought a DVI to VGA adapter and I plugged it in my laptop. I cannot get it to work. Can someone tell me what cables I'm SUPPOSED to buy so I can use my TV as my monitor for my laptop. Thanks

VGA is an analog signal while DVI and HDMI are digital formats. They are incompatible. The laptop has to have a "TV Out" card. these usually terminate with an "S" Video connector. If you have one, you need an "S" video cable.
Otherwise, if the TV is set up for it, it would have a VGA input on it for this purpose.
BTW, DVI is "Digital Video Input" and HDMI is "High Definition Multimedia Input". Both of which are for accepting high definition video signals and have no relation to a computer unless the computer is specifically designed for HDTV input and output.

You can buy a VGA to HDMI converter box. You cannot buy any cables or adapters that will convert an analog connector to a digital connector. It just doesn't work that way.
