I look to many places for encouragement to improve self and finances. Why not look for these in my faith. I just think it is a byproduct of living this life. It is not a basis for a total faith agenda, for me. His sermons are positive and uplifting, but not all that is required for my faith.
My sisters minister did an interesting thing one Sunday. He asked for the hands of all the business owners. Many hands went up. He asked "Why are you not doing business with each other" Bring prosperity to each other and in turn the church would prosper to expand their ministries to the congregation. It made sense.
The disappointment is the promenence of concentration on financial gain. Money was not Christs goals. We should prosper, because we should work hard. But monitary gain is insignificant to spiritual gain. If the priorities are straight Joel is fine to me. I read his book, had to remove the cover. That expensive dental work is hard to look at. When you turn on his program listen but try not to watch, and you will gain more from it. concepts are good, but the delivery is ruff to watch.

He expects the Father to Bless us and there isn't anything wrong with that. It is just that the Father blessing us may not have anything to do with material wealth. Joel doesn't take any money from the church as he makes enough off his books so I think his heart is in the right place. Still he is not half the preacher his Dad was.

One of the things I like about him is he doesn't outright condemn anyone but he does openly denounce sin as defined by the scriptures. I don't believe he does this solely as an attempt to keep his mega church membership, it seems like he does it because he doesn't believe that it's right to tell a "sinner" they are not welcome at his church. As far as prosperity is concerned, he seems to say that God only wants the very best for His people and if we follow His teachings he will reward us now and later. And that prosperity is not always money.
Personally I think only a hardcore atheist would have the guts to be an outright shyster in the pulpit, anyone who remotely believes in God would be way to scared.

No, its receiving blessings and living like children of the King.
But overall I dont listen to him, he preaches a soft, cushy message that people want to hear. I want truth, not comfort. His messages are the reason 20,000 people attend his church every Sunday.... because its an easy message with no real work involved, it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

I do not follow any Christian TV programs, I go to my own Church and study the bible with a radio pastor Dr. J. Vernon McGee, www.ttb.org. I find TV ministries too flashy.
