Yes. The lights have no significance whatsoever. To some they represent the light that came into the world (Christ). For me, they just look nice and festive and Christmas is a festival, afterall

Yes... well, sort of- we put lights on the tree.... to make it pretty....

I've been told that originally people put tiny candles on their trees, but it made for a pretty dangerous holiday season. When electricity became widely used, someone thought up the grand (and much safer) idea of creating strings of tiny electric lights.

Then somebody decided that those same strings of electric lights would be kinda cool looking on the outside of homes. I agree, but I've never lived in a place where putting lights on the outside of my home was feasible, although...

Once I lived in an appartment that didn't have a ceiling light in the dining room. We put up some icecicle-style lights around the ceiling (pinned where crown molding would be), and it was really pretty, lit the dining room quite nicely, too!

Anyway, back to your question... I heard once that the lights on the tree (flame or electric) represent Jesus- as the Light of the world...

Yes. The Light shall overcome the Darkness.

Christ is the light of the world! The Light entered our world.

Merry Christmas.

Nope.

And here I thought we would be finished with the daily onslaught of the same ole pagan/Christmas questions once Christmas was over.

Wouldn’t you like to get a nice early start on Easter?

Absolutely and it is beautiful - representing the light of Christ - brings joy to the children, the neighbors and our family. Makes us all happy! Are you happy? Or was your house dark and gloomy this holiday?

Not this year. We all gathered at our eldest daughters for the Holidays and stayed several days, so we didn't bother decorating this year.
