Seperation anxiety!!!!!!!!! I'm telling you, my dog did the same damn thing!!! He's upset that he's left alone, and he's saying "how dare they leave me!! I'll show them not to leave me again!!" It's totall normal, a pain, but normal! Here's a few tips you can try to avoid such stinky situation....
1. Crate the dog when you leave. This will keep the extermination to one place, and because he's going to be in it, he'll more then likely stop. And put him in the crate more then just when you leave, so he doesn't get stressed out when he's in there, causing physical illnesses.
2. Ignore him completely for at least 15 minutes before you leave. Don't make a big deal about you leaving, or he'll think you're just abanding him again.
3. Put him outside on a chain/lead, in an area you don't care to get destroyed.
Once he understands that you'll be coming back whenever you leave, he'll stop doing it. I promise! By you punishing him for doing it, you're telling him "You did this in the house, and I'm going to leave you alone because of it!!" It's a rock and a had place. The both of you are "getting each other back", by you leaving the house. It's a never ending cycle.
Crating isn't the most fun. I don't like when peole crate their animals, BUT!!! If it's for training, or punishment, then I'm all for it. It's alot better then swatting with a newspaper, or spanking(which don't work anyway! It only makes the dog afraid or aggresice toward the human hand!), and definatly better then yelling!
Whenever I would leave, even to go and check the mail, being gone for about 2 minutes, I'd come back, and find feces all over the living room. I got those tips, and the only time my dog exterminates in the house, is when we're sleeping and he can't hold it anymore!!
The link below is a great site, with great tips!! Hope it helps!
Good luck to you!

Dogs love poop. They don't use it to "get back at us" that is way too much thought for a dog. However, when you are gone, your dog is probably more stressed and we all know stress makes the poop and pee come. He gets stressed because he is not a confident dog.
Punishing him for being unable to control his bodily functions is part of what makes him less confident. You are partly responsible for the fact he poops and pees in the house when you are gone. Stop punishing him immediately.
Crate train him and leave him in a crate when your are gone. Come home at lunch and let him out into the yard.

Consistency is the key! Though it may seem cruel, you should never leave him unattended/out of his cage while you're away. He could get into something that could harm him. Punishing and yelling does not work. It will only discourage him further. If trained properly your dog will learn to love his cage, as his own place to be. Positive reinforcement works much better than negative. Always praise him tons when he does what you want. It is a dog's nature to want to please the leader of his pack(you in this case).

You can't punish the dog for using the bathroom if you didn't catch the dog in the act. If you punish him for popping on the floor and he did it hours ago, he has no idea why you're yelling at him. In his mind he is thinking, "Did I not poop enough on the floor?" then they do it more.
You should keep a puppy in a kennel until they can be trusted at home alone. Dogs actually dont mind being in kennels - they like it. They find it as a place of comfort and security.

he is probably anxious awaiting you to come back
actually putting him in his crate will help both problems
1 he wont poop in you house
2 the cage will be a place for him to be calm kinda like a bear in his den
if he is not use to being in his crate put him in it for an hour a day for a week then for 1 1/2 and so on don't leave him in the crate any longer than 4hours at a time no food or water in crate put soft bedding in with him maybe a shirt with your natural scent on it (no perfume)
you can also leave his crate door open and he will go in there on his own when he is sleepy
mother or 3 chihuahuas and 1 pom pom 2 kittys

1st, don't shove the dogs face into. All that does is give you a smelly dog. Would you do that to your kid? Dogs only have an attention span of about six tenths of a second. To correct, you have to catch them doing it.
Try letting your dog out before you go, play with him, tire him out. He might sleep while you are gone. Also, try acting like you are leaving, watch him through a window, when he starts to potty open the door and act like you are shocked. Carry him outside and let him finish his business there. Praise him when he goes outside.

you can't punish your dog for going in the house unless you see him do it. because the dog has forgotten what he has done and just thinks your being mean for no reason. really you just need to wait till he is older. puppies are impatient and they do this because they know that you aren't there to scold him. take him outside everyday and give him a treat when he does his business . thats the best thing you can do or you can crate train him. my puppy loves her crate and sleeps in it when we are in the living room .

he's lonely when you leave him and this is way of getting attention. Try puppy pads when you're not home at least he won't go on the carpet and every time he goes outside when you are home praise him and let him know that you're pleased with him good luck

You people are ignorant. Dogs are not spiteful. He does it inside because he's lonely, confused, scared, possibly because he has to frickin' GO. Tough love, you jerk, is just an excuse for being cruel. Get a life.
