Draco Paladin, I agree. I don't like how he calls us the deluded people because we believe in god.

Richard Dawkins is Professor of the Public Understanding of Science, Oxford University.
Some of his quotes are: "I’m a Darwinist because I believe the only alternatives are Lamarkism or God, neither of which does the job as an explanatory principle." (Lamark had a theory of evolution by acquired characteristics).
"…my suggestion is you won’t find any intelligent person who feels the need for the supernatural."
"It is absolutely safe to say that if you meet somebody who claims not to believe in evolution, that person is ignorant, stupid or insane (or wicked, but I'd rather not consider that)."
"…. religion is, in a sense, science; it's just bad science. Don't fall for the argument that religion and science operate on separate dimensions and are concerned with quite separate sorts of questions. Religions have historically always attempted to answer the questions that properly belong to science….."
And in answer to your question, no i don't like Dawkins (though i have to admit i don't know much about him) . I think he is harsh in putting his opinions across. But he does have a sense of humor.

I dont hate him, I find him humorous at times but he is about AS religious in his Atheism as Jerry Falwell is in his... and really neither of them seem to be as intelligent as they sound. I watched a show with Dawkins on it recently, it was a replay of a show he did years ago. Someone had written him about the "Bombadier Beetle" which defies any theories that Evolution comes up with. Seems the beetle spits a leathal dose of 2 chemicals out of sepperate ducts on its head (forgive me, I cant remember which chemicals they are) but when combined, they catch fire, and the beetle beetle litterally burns its enemies. The reason why this defies Evolution is because it never could have happened "naturally" or the first of these beetles would have just caught fire and never developed further. Dawkins goes to show how "smart" he is... and gets sepperate glasses of these 2 chemichals smugly mixes them and shows everyone they dont catch fire, the glass doesnt even get hot. And he "thinks" he has proven something..... but wait... he couldnt have combined the right combination of the chemicals because SOMEHOW, the Beetle DOES catch his enemies on fire.... see what I mean? Seems whenever he attempts to prove "it wasn't God" he actually gives further evidence in God's favor ;)

I LOVE Richard Dawkins. Ok, not romantically, but I think he's absolutely brilliant and very clever. And yes, surprise surprise, an atheist can be very well versed in Christian theology. An atheist can even UNDERSTAND it!
Oh, and fireball... yes, this IS the correct section. Richard Dawkins has dedicated a lot of this time and energy to talk about religion and the concept of God. Don't claim this is in the wrong section if you have no clue as to what's going on.
And by the way, according to Dawkins HIMSELF, he doesn't mean "delusional" in the clinical, psychiatric sense. This is from his book: "The Penguin English Dictionary defines a delusion as 'a false belief or impression'..... The dictionary provided by Microsoft Word defines delusion as 'a persistent false belief held in the face of strong contradictory evidence, especially as a symptom of a psychiatric disorder.' The first part captures religious faith perfectly."

I respect him very much. The problem he is trying to address is the making of the religious right. By asserting themselves into science, the religious have required scientists to refute their claims. It is only natural that they would go after the basic assumptions of religion, because it is from these assumptions that the conservative Christians have felt justified in challenging the findings of biology, chemistry, and physics.
I find your statement that you "hate the guy" really very telling. You have no argument with his statements, only an "ad hominem" attack. He has a rational response to religion. Can't you honor his intelligence and your own with a response in kind?

He's annoying, almost a perfect mirror image of the fundamentalists he derides and contemns.
"Meme" is a neat word for what's been described for decades in other fields like linguistics, sociology, and the history of ideas. But even that contribution has been abused and warped into the service of pseudoscientific endeavors.
There's a neat review of Dawkins linked below. Stephen Barr, a theoretical physicist, has enjoyed skewering Dawkins' dumber moments.

Do you hate the guy? Compare him when his attacking religion to all the christians "reverends" and "ministers" when they attack non-christians. You'll notice a little bit of a difference in the argumentation and in the vocabulary (less offences come from R.D. mouth). I don't like that he sometimes doesn't express his views the right way letting his christians debaters win points.
