I'm no doctor, but I'd be very surprised if that was the case.

"The oral part of the tongue is covered with small bumpy projections called papillae. There are three types of papillae:

filiform (thread-shape)
fungiform (mushroom-shape)
circumvallate (ringed-circle)
All papillae except the filiform have taste buds on their surface."

That would mean that there are WAY too many tastebuds on your tongue for them all to be ruined from just one piercing. Just think, when you bite your tongue you don't lose your sense of taste.

Furthermore, most of your sense of taste comes from your sense of SMELL. Don't believe me? Take a bite of something, then take another bite while holding your nose. The tongue can only actually detect four "tastes"... sour, sweet, bitter, and salty. Everything else comes from your nose. That chocolatey taste of a good red wine? That's your nose. The subtleties of a herbed chicken breast? Your nose.

Just think of when your nose is stopped up... you can't taste a damn thing.

If you want to get one, go for it. Don't worry about losing your taste. If you're going to worry about anything, worry about infection from poor care or chipped teeth.

No. I've had it pierced for 3 years.

No, the back part of your tongue has more taste buds than the front.

Actually, if you are considering having your tongue pierced, you've already lost your taste.
