There are non-college programs out there that can certify you as a wedding planner. They teach how to run the business and how to find clients. Working with another wedding planner can be useful as well in learning the business. Once certified, you should become a member of one of the professional organizations for wedding planners...this will help with your credibility.

Go to college and major in business or hospitality. I would try to get an internship with an event planning business while in college, and if you do well they may give you a job after college. You can also become certified as a wedding planner through different organizations by taking a few classes. Good luck.

If you want any more info, I have some. I want to become a wedding planner too. Email me narawen_greenleaf_26@yahoo.com

It is not an easy career. First I would suggest she take classes on all the subjects surrounding wedding planning. i.e. bookkeeping, design, etc. Then she should hook up with another planner or company to get some experience. Caterers, florists, hotels, party planning stores are all good places to advertise once she has a business. A lot of money is spent on weddings and most people do not want someone who just thinks they can do it. She will have to prove herself. Tell her to contact a local jr college to see if there are courses connected to this area.

You have to go to college first. Check with local colleges to find out what the required cirriculum is.
