I just moved and my dog has to be on a long lead (the equivalent of a 20x20 kennel) outside while the grass grows in the yard. She is a 3 year old dutch shepard lab mix and she paces and whines for up to 5 hours at a time at night! She has to stay out side...and she has shelter and blankets and toys! What can I do to stop this??!! She gets walked at least 45 min daily and gets play time in the part of the yard where the grass is not growing, fetch, find the hidden bone ect. She does not live on the leash, its temporary. And remember, dogs live outside in the wild, people....not to mention on farms and many other places...

Ok, forst of all, the chain she's on sounds VERY VERY good! She has plenty of room, and plenty of things to do. maybe to much.

She sounds bored and lonely. Just because she has toys, doesn't mean she has something to do. Dogs get bored INCREDIBLY easy!!! Take some toys away, and switch the toys out every week or so. My dog got bored of his new chew toy after a couple weeks, and now he won't touch the damn thing! No matter who plays with it, or how much we try to play with him.

Maybe if you shorten her lead, she won't be whining as much. sometimes, when a dog has to much space, they get upset because they don't have as much as they want, or they have to much and don't know what to do with it. My dogs chain is only about 5-6 feet long. So his area is about 10x10, I guess. It's not a large area, but it's not fenced in, so he has PLENTY of room.

My dog is also lonely when he's outside. He starts to howl, and sounds like a wolf in the yard. He wants to be brought in or he's trying to call over one the neighborhood dogs to ome and play with him. Maybe your dog is lonely. Are you in an apt, or a place that doesn't allow pets? If they allow pets, bring her in for a couple hours a day, so she knows that she hasn't been abandoned. Or put her next to the door, and leave the door open/screen shut. Or leave a window cracked, or open the blinds/curatins. That way she can see you, and/or hear you.

A dogs mind is just as omplex as ours. So try different things with her, and see if anything keeps her quiet. Once you figure that out, keep doing it. Unless it's attention, then you may be giving her to much attention lol. It's a hard life, being the parent of a pet. Almost as bad as being the parent of a human child!!

maybe try a very fast walk right before night time? sounds like she is well cared for. it could be the change in house and yard and she's feeling insecure. they have different types of bark collars, they can spray citrus, send ultrasonic sounds and even electric ones that give an electric static correction when the dog barks incessantly. good luck and hope your grass grows fast so she can get back to having more room to find a spot to sleep.

There's really very little you can do. first do not respond to the crying. If you do she knows that if she cries you come out she'll do it all night she's got nothing better to do. You could always get a second dog. Don't feel bad about her being outside, even in the house she would cry. She's just lonely and scared. She'll probably quit within a week or so.

i think that you need to spend a whole day or week focusing on her playing walking depending if you can let her in the house or if its cold outside but she misses spending time wiith you or just simply get a playmate

People lived outside too at one time. Has she always been outside? Either bring her in, go aoutside and sleep with her, or find a more fitting home. It's not the size of area she has, it's the fast that she is lonely and confused because she is separated from her "pack"

Poor baby, she misses you probably. IF she must be out side she must. If you can make little trips out to give her a treat or something right before you go to bed it might reassure her that you are not abandoning her.
