if you wish to do something b4 the end of the school year, you should tell him that you like him and i think that's all you should/can do.

That's really all I have to say. I fell for this guy and I'm still in love with him but at the time I had no idea I felt that way about him. I thought I was losing my mind and acting completely ridiculous.
Then suddenly the day came when I tried to end our friendship because I thought it wasn't working out then that's when he told me "I'm falling in love with you." My heart jumped and I felt like I got hit on the head. But that made me wake up and the moment he said that I was like "Damn, I must feel the same way too."
Chances are, if you tell him he'd probably have a realization like I did. It won't be love but as long as you both like each other, it's all good.
So yes, tell him. If it scares him away, that's his loss not yours.
