For christmas, my parents bought me the "cyberhome 6 speaker surround sound headphone" from wierdstuff.com

On it, it specifically says it can connect to the PC.
heres the link: http://www.weirdstuff.com/cgi-bin/item/20710

I got the order today and it says it can connect using coaxial or optical input. I have no clue how to use this to connect to the pc or an mp3 player. Is this possible? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, you are not going to be able to use an mp3 player with these headphones because according to the specs it says it will only accept a coax or optical audio cable. Mp3's are analog stereo, where coax and optical are digital surround sound.

As for your PC, your sound card needs to be able to output via coax or optical. Most sound cards cannot. Most sound cards only output analog surround sound and not digital surround sound. The ones that can requires special adapters or would never come as part of a pre-built PC.

If I were you, I would exchange it or sell it on e-bay. I would recommend a standard pair of headphones for your PC or mp3. For mp3's, I would recommend earbuds than the standard headsets. For PC's, I would recommend a headset with a 6-10 foot cord.
