I can safely tell you that oil and acrylic paints are not chemically compatible.Physically mixing the two will result in a mixture that is 1.Not pretty and not well combined.2. Will not dry properly if at all.Overpainting oils on top of acrylics and vice versa is not a good idea as they will not bond properly to one another. If you need some kind of acrylic underpainting you could use acrylic paint mixed with acrylic gesso it come in different colors as well including clear.Oil paint does bond to the acrylic gesso because it has an open surface unlike tube acrylic colors.

It's just a matter of personal choice. You can do anything in acrylics that you can do with watercolors, and some of the things you can do with oil painting. The one real advantage to oil painting is that you can make thinner and thinner shades of a color to add a semi-transparent effect to a painted object. In acrylics this cannot be done, as a thinner acrylic will not adhere to a thicker acrylic underneath it. Cleaning up with most oil paints requires very toxic chemicals. However there are now soy based oil paints that can be cleaned up with soap and water. Have fun painting!

if you must paint the acrylic first and then after it really dries say five hours then paint the oil on top but to mix them fresh is not a good thing u heard about oil and water not mixing well that is what you have there oil and water as the medium that each of those two floats around in

The base of the two paints (oil and water) don't mix... not to sound cliched...

Very bad idea - it will ruin the whole kit and kaboodle.

Sorry.

If you're doing mixed media always remember the rule : FAT OVER LEAN. So always put your oils last, water based first (and dry).
