I'm guesing that you're dad is not around?
I'd advise you to be respectful of your mom and start looking around for real live guys that you admire, watch how they behave, speak, walk, etc. and copy the parts of their mannarisms that you like and you want to become part of you.
Eventually, the behavior that you like will become the behavior that you make your own - it won't be a copy anymore the behavior that you manifest/do will be you.
Right now you are responsible for putting together the ingredients for making you theman that you want tobe.
Starting at age 18 is the perfect time for you to make this change, and be patient its' going to take you a little time to tighten up your act
You can make you anyway you want to be.
Don't be too mad at your mom, she' afraid of loosing you to "grown-up land". You aer not a little piece of crap, you are a young man - its tough, but you can do this and before you know it - you will be a grown man.
Hang in there, time will pass before you know it.

Being a man is quite a challenge; that is why some males never make it.
And at the age of 18, a lot of people are being helped by their parents to get an education.
The following are some signs of adulthood.
If you are in college or school, get to all your classes on time and do your homework without being reminded.
If you have a job, always get there on time and do a good job.
Don't spend more money than you have.
At home, do your own laundry and help with other chores.
If you are not studying but already have a full-time job, get there on time, do a good job, and don't spend all your money. Save up so that you can move into your own place or in with friends near your age.
Nevertheless, your mom will always think you are her little boy; but when you know you are a man, this won't bother you.

Being a man means many things to many people, but most would agree that a sense of responsibility is the first step. You should be working towards goals that bring you closer to being completely independent of your parents which is definitely a huge part of really being a man. But another big part of being a man is the wisdom enough to know that mothers will always see their sons as babies. This never changes, but the only thing that can change is your reaction to it. You are finally at an age where you should be enjoying some freedoms, so don't worry about her. Try to get her to laugh at herself, Get some marine or army pamphlets and tell her you're thinking of going off to Iraq just to prove to her that you're a man-- that might shut her up!!! In all honesty, most guys around your age have to break away from their moms for a few years to go find out who they are, she'll be there when you get back, but really you need to not be spending much time with her when you're 18. that's just my opinion...

First step into becoming a man- realize that your mother carried you in her for almost 10 months, then went through labor for you, and raised you, unless she is abusive mentally, let go of your anger towards her calling you her little boy.
I have a son that is going on 3 soon, and he will always be my little boy, my little man, my baby, because no matter what he looks like, or how he acts, I carried that little buggar in my and labored for him, which gives me the right to keep him my baby forever! lol
Also- I am sure your mother does see you as a mature young adult, unless of course you are drinking and drugging a lot and not getting good grades, then you will still look like a child in people's eyes. enjoy being 18 and still under your mother's roof because once you move out and have all the responsibility on your own, you will miss this age you are at right now. so that brings me to your second step of being a man
Patients.

Well, to start off your mother will probably always look at you this way...You will understand when you have children, but that is besides the fact. If you don't feel that you are a man then make a change..A man in my eyes takes care of his self and his family..Obviously your not married or have children but you can get a good job or go to college and work part time..Put money aside ....In the mean time be yourself and help your mother, have respect for all women and always stick up for your self and your women no matter what the situation is..Have morals and stick to them ....Once you have your self financially stable get your own place and still go to your mothers and help her when needed... ALWAYS RESPECT WOMEN!!!!
You are on the right track..Just the fact that you are interested in growing up and doing it the right way shows you have lots of potential...you will be just fine!!

She'll always refer to you as her lil boy (you're her son). For your mother to see you as a mature young man....get a job and keep it! Find a roommate or you and your girlfriend move out to YOUR own place. Make time for college.......you'll need it!!!!
