The most important thing to do is PRAY... and find a church that teaches the Bible. Without that constant inspiration to pray and read the Word, you're guaranteed to slide back into your old habits. There are many churches that only reference a passage here and there, but mainly talk about current events, or traditions. What you need is a pastor that regularly teaches directly from the Bible, and makes it simple enough for you to apply to your life. While you're searching, there are some ministers you can watch on TV or the internet, like Joyce Meyers, Creflo A. Dollar, Charles Stanley, or Lamont McLean; just google them. But whomever you choose, read your Bible and make sure that they're teaching directly from it, and not giving you their opinions. Also, in addition to the King James version, you need a concordance and a Bible that's more up to date. I'd recommend The Good News version, The Message, The Amplified, God's Word For Your Every Need, or The New International Version (NIV).
There is also a program on the internet, that you can download, that has a bunch of Bible translations and other books that will help you study it. It's at www.e-sword.net. It's free to download, they only ask for a donation, which you can give then, or, at a later time.
Stay motivated and in prayer. God is looking for people that actively seek after Him. He doesn't want you to just be nonchalant about your relationship with Him, because as long as you're on the Earth, sin has a greater pull on you than God has, And If you're not regularly renewing and reinforcing your relationship with Him, you'll wake up one day and see that you've drifted away. The good thing is that if you do get away from Him, you can repent, and get back to where you were.

Pray for God to send some spiritual people in your path in NY. Also pray He'll guide you toward a house of worship where you'll be likely to meet them. Buy a bible or go the Salvation Army as I think they will give you a New Testament. I'll pray with you. God will bless you with perseverance.

It would seem that faith you already have. If you did not believe in God or trust in Him you would not be seeking the path to him, as you call it.
Faith is nothing one can earn, but it is a gift of God's grace brought by the Holy Spirit. You really should be asking, "How do I increase my faith." The answer is by partaking in the means God uses to impart his Grace: prayer, the hearing of his Word, the sacrament of Holy Communion and by baptism (if you are not yet baptized).
Below are the links to two online Bibles you can look at if you do not have one in print, but if you ask most clergy, they have Bibles to hand out.
May God bless you and increase your faith.

God is right where He has always been - waiting with open arms!
He loves you as no other can.
Talk with Him, from your heart - you can find forgiveness, guidance, care and love unlike any you will ever know from a human.
Contact any local church and someone will be happy to get a Bible to you.......more than happy to share God's Word with you.
May you find the peace for which you seem to search!

If you are really interested in something, you naturally want to do it and you make yourself do it. Either you are going to do this or you are not. Churches, some anyway, have bibles they will give away for those who ask. Start attending church. Get involved with people in your area and your age about God. We can all answer this question for you but YOU have to be the one dedicated and take the action to get things done.

Whenever your out, look around at things and try to see God's hands in it. Reflect that bad maybe a teaching tool and good is a blessing. Talk to him, it requires no special prayers or to be on your knees..Thank him for the little things as well as the big..

God accepts all. Just pray. Try to get in a church. Say a prayer every now and then. Ask him to forgive you of your sins. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Like I said keep your faith by praying. And do not care on others opinions. hope i helped!
