you may not want to exclude your gf from this new step you're taking. You want to keep her involved so that she doesn't feel rejected by your looking to expand your social circle as that could lead to her doubting WHY you're looking to meet new people. So, as a way to keep her involved, maybe the two of you could go out and meet other lesbian couples. There are local gathering spots or, regular places like concerts, where large groups of people with similar interests meet up to hang out.

After the two of you have settled into the new city a bit more, and a few common friends have been made, you'll by then either have gotten to know the city well enough to have figured out good places to venture off on your own to meet new people (kewl poetry-reading places you like, or a kewl place that sells vinyl still, etc.) while at the same time having already made a few friends as a couple and THOSE friends will most likely lead to even more new friends as well. I say, don't worry about things, get out there with positivity in your heart (i.e. - being open to trying new things) and new friends will come.

I moved here to Cleveland in 1999 knowing nobody. I made many new friends at work. I also started going to a neighborhood bar that seemed kind of cool and just hung out for a while and got to know different people just about every night .

I think joining an organization of like-minded people can work well. Depending on your interests, you could join a political group like Amnesty, a craft group (see your local craft store) or take a fun continuing education course like cooking (pick one where you won't always be sitting). Book clubs can also be a good way of meeting people - check out your local bookstore or library for group.

What about going and doing things that interest you, such as the library, bookstore, volunteering, church, etc. and you will find people with the same interests as you.
