She probably wouldn't remember waking up at all, but she would be very hard to waken. Ambien puts you in a deep REM sleep, such that if you were to waken her, she might get up, might act like she was functioning normally, but she would still actually be asleep. She would probably even talk to you, but one thing you would notice is that her motor movements would be impaired.
There have been lots of news reports lately of people "sleep-eating" while taking Ambien. Those reports are true, but they are not all inclusive. Other people sleep walk, and try to do other things in their homes when they have been roused from sleep while taking Ambien. It is very important that patients on Ambien have undisturbed sleep.
I was in a tornado once and my daughter had to pull me from my bed and put me in the bathroom. I don't remember anything, but I did try to get up and leave and do other things while I was asleep. I have tried to cook, tried to clean house and other things when my sleep patterns were disturbed, and it was a disaster!
(I burned myself badly one night trying to cook!)
Watch your wife carefully while she is on this medicine. I still take it, but I have to be very careful!

Ambien is a non narcotic sleep medication. It helps people fall asleep and stay sleeping. In case of an emergency she will be able to wake up without feeling drowsy. My father has been on Ambien for years and I don't have a problem waking him up.

I've taken ambien. It is not a hard core knock you out drug. It is a hypnotic. Hypnotics help you sleep by distracting you from the fact that you are not sleeping if you get what i mean. you could wake her but don't. If she is taking these meds she needs them to get back on a regular sleep pattersn. just be careful that she is not taking themm for too long like more than 2 weeks b/c they can cause IDK how to call it but semi addiction/ withdrawl. and make sure she is not on any ssri antidepressants.

She would be fine. She wouldnt be any less groggy w/out the ambien. She would just be more tired tomorrow if she doesnt get enough sleep straight through. I took ambien in the hospital so i could sleep better and the damn nurses were in ther every 2 hrs for something.

I agree with most of the posters on this .
My question to you is >spookie music plays < how will you know if she is really awake ?
I heard of folks taking Ambien and cooking food ,driving car and last but not least getting a big axe out of the shed and chopping peoples hands who tried to wake them up after they get to sleep .
Sorry about the last part haha sic humor i guess

She would just wake up, may be a little groggy but that's all she should function normally....ambien is not very strong at all. That is why it is prescribed so often

No need to worry. If she only took it a few hours ago, she would just be slightly slower at waking up.
If the house was on fire, i guarantee that would wake her up fast.
It's not like the old sedatives we use to have. She could function just fine in an emergency. Lol. Giggle.
Good question though.

She'd be groggy, but she'd get over it. Just. . .she wouldn't be okayed to operate heavy machines (like cars). Just let her sleep after the wake-up call.
