You can't hardly find anything that isn't strapless unless you have it custom made. Even the rare dresses that do have straps of any kind are not flattering styles either.

I've noticed it doesn't matter if it's a bridal gown or a bridesmaid dress.

Unfortunately that's a popular style right now. But if you're short enough, you can take the extra material from an AWESOME DRESS and add it to the top and make straps.

Best advice: shop around. DO NOT SETTLE and find the perfect dress. It might cost a bit more, but it's definitely worth it.

You're so right! A strapless gown is probably the most demanding style to wear, and is definitely not for everybody.

That said, I know someone in the Atlanta area with astonishing dressmaking skills who has made hundreds of period costumes, men's suits, and a wedding gown or two. She does this as a hobby, and so charges very little. Contact me if you'd like to know more, and I'll help if I can.

Good luck!

It is just what is 'in' now, unfortunately. I had a dressy affair to attend recently and had one heck of time finding something that was not completely strapless to wear. I ended up with a gown with fairly thin straps and a matching jacket. You could get a strapless and a matching shawl, something like that, but I do sympathize with you.

maybe you aren't looking in the right places. try searching the kind of dress you want online(ie: slightly fitted halter etc.) and see if any stores near you have the dresses you would like and then go get it. Or you can just order online.

Most designers only design dresses for the very thin.
