I could see a few rockets, but the US has enough doomsday crap to blow the world up a few times...and evaporate any leftover water. Why do we need this?

Perhaps to defend themselves against nations without religious principles. If the Soviet Union or Germany were the first to have the bomb, do you really think America would have been spared?

We need it, becuase we are insecure. Time and again we have found that this world is not the idyllic place we would like to think. We can't sleep comfortably at night without knowing that, should we feel provoked, we can annihilate all of humanity. It's our confidence, it's our stregth, it's our drug, if you will. This illusion of power.

From your post, I would assume you to be a liberal peace activist, but then you say the US was founded on religious principles. Most liberals will scream that the US was NOT founded on religious principles, so that makes me wonder, just what type of creature you really are.

Why do you think the US won the Cold War? It's because we also won the arms race. The one thing that deters an enemy from attacking you is the ability of you to strike back and harm that enemy.
