im going to be getting a kitten, possibly 2, and i was just wondering between males and females which ones had better temperments (were more playful, more mischevious, etc.) or should i get one of both and see? theyre already going to be spayed/neutered if that makes any difference

ive had many of both male and female cats. personally i think the males r more personal, and affectionate. even when fixed. the females just tend to b more on there own and dont really want the cuddles and lovies that a male does. im not sure y though. i love both however most of the cats that have "adopted" me have been males. lol

If going with 2 kittens at once, I definitly suggest litter-mates regarless of sex. There is no better way to assure they will be great friends. I've had 2 boys and 2 girls...they have all been a joy to have in my life.

Personality is difficult to determine in very young kittens becasue they are typically all very playful. If you want a better gage of personlality, I suggest considering adopting 2 litter mates that are more like, 6 months old. They are still kittens (under a year old) so they should be easy to train/influence. However, they will be at an age where their true personalities are beginning to show.

I adopted my 2 boys at 7 months. The personalities that I observed at that time were very accurate indicators of their personalities now at ages 4 and 5.

I have had 5 cats and 4 were males. The one female was very moody, and when my husband (boyfriend at the time) would come over she would hiss and bite at him, and after he moved in she started urinating on stuff, including our $2400 couch. I did get rid of her, but to a very good home. The male cats were a lot more loveable I think. I have a male cat now who was a stray (and starving) and he is the sweetest ever. Go for a male. Just like humans, the females are Moooooooooody!

It makes a huge difference that they are going to be fixed! Males can still be very territorial though, even after being nutered. I have only had one female cat, the other 7 I've had througout my life have been male and I would deffinatly recommend the female! All our males peed on things as they got older and two had problems with their kidneys that the vet said doesn't happen as much to females. As long as you don't have to worry about the girl being in heat then def. go for a girl cat!

females are typically slightly more playful since they are the "hunters"
females are more expensive to spay...
males MIGHT continue spraying after being neutered...

their personalities are much the same after the spaying/neutering... but I recommend getting 2 the same sex ONLY becuase if for some reason you do not get them fixed in time you wont be having another litter

please adopt from a shelter...

Well females overall are more agressive specially when they are on thier period as for males the bad thing about them is that they are always very "hot" if you know what i mean and that can be a little disturbing..yet they are very playful and i guess more playfull than females...i guess it all comes down in the end which cat captures your heart the moment you see it....good luck.

Sometimes it depends on the breed of cats. In Bengals, males are always sweeter and more playful. In Siamese I don't think it matters at all. Both my male and my female are loving, but my male talks more. just find two kittens, best if they are litter mtes, that aren't shy and go from there.

males are more loving in my experience but really it's just an individual temperament. If you can, play with the cat awhile before you take it home. As for being mischievous and playful all kittens are like that.

I know this ,,,,,, that if you are going to get a male cat then you'd better have it fixed ,,,,,Once they've matured Male cats spray and the smell is enough to drive you from your home and is almost impossible to get rid of ,,,,, Males present allot of problems that most people don't realize until it's too late ,,,,
