Canadian First Nations people have several additional rights that other canadians do not. They get more hunting and fishing rights, first choice at government jobs, selected first for police jobs, do not pay taxes (when they live on their reserves which are basically just towns) etc etc.

Why do our governments continually build them houses when they tear down the walls in 2 years, punch holes in the walls, clean seals and other wild game in the bath tub, its a disgrace and the proof is in Nain, Davis Inlet, and other reserves I am sure.

My great great great great great grandfather moved here 400 years ago, same as people from India, Poland, Russia etc still move here today....are they going to owe me anything because I was here first? Or course not.

When you add all taxes up, a man that makes 100,000 a year we pay about 50% in taxes. Native population is now at 3% of canada, if it gets to 20% we might as well be their wiggers cause they will own us. When will I be an Equal?

As I had expected the native people did lash out and it is quite obvious that they do want the extra rights and special treatment.

Some have suggested that we do not belong here and we should go back on the boat my ancestors came over on 400 years ago.

War goes back thousands and thousands of years ago, and there may of been a war here in canada between the new immigrants and the native indians that were here. Maybe the non-natives won, but we wanted to let natives be a part of our new canada. With war no body owes anybody anything.

You are not better than I am, and if we were both brought into this world innocent, we should all have the same opportunities and rights.

African Americans were taken from their homes 300 years ago, and they dont get extra's, they just want to be treated as equals (which they are) As I just want fair treatment and equal rights.

The Biggots are the ones that advocate special rights for a select few.

Some of the other answers are great and I agree with the question asker. I am friends with one of the guys that was working at the site in Caladonia, unfortunately these natives decided that they would take the land by force, my friend is not working now thanks to them. I have a strong feeling that the people opposed to natives being treated like everyone else, are natives themselves or are just misinformed and unexperienced with being around these people.

First nations people have all the opportunities they could wish for, unfortunately a lot of them do not want opportunities.

I worked and lived in a community in northern alberta where there are several high paying jobs and a huge demand for employees. Tim Hortons and Burger King's starting wage for a 16 year old kid is 14 dollars an hour. There were always signs up looking for workers, however the Natives were not working these jobs, I always saw them behind the 7-Eleven drunk and ****** up on drugs, and at the Oil Can bar looking for the next guy to roll.

Also I had native guys working for me at major oil refinery projects, and I could not get half of them to work. However I must admit that a couple were my best employees as they were very smart, hard working, and driven for sucess.....so it is not all natives.

But one of the respondants has replied that companies are making all the money in canada. You my friend are misinformed as there are major royalities going to the first nations people's leaders.

No one can come on here and say that first nations do not have the opportunities.

If people are able to say they deserve to reap the rewards of the newcommers hard work, does that mean that white people get to pay a little less tax than east indian, blacks, polish, ukranians and russians? No way, I am White, and all my black brothers, polish brothers, ukranian brothers and russian brothers are equal. We want to be all treated the same and have the same rights as others.

The constant handouts to natives are not helping, they need to be incorporated with the rest of canada as we are a multi-curtural nation. The other cultures are getting along and contrubuting to this great country of Canada, the natives have not been doing much for Canada in the last 300 years anyway.

Our decendants immigrated to canada and are not being treated the same as the people that were here before, but we (not natives) are welcoming other cultures and races with open arms as equal brothers with the dream of a better Canada.

Sounds to me like you hate them. You are wrongfully stereotyping first nations peoples.First of all they were here first and were almost wiped out by invading armies and disease and if that wasn't enough the government kidnapped kids off reserves and brainwashed them into thinking they were white in residential schools teaching them to hate their own people so the end result if successful would be that they would not want to have relations with native people and the population would be eventually be wiped out.Fortunately this plan was not very successful. But it is still surprising how many people don't know where they really came from because of this. Many of the kids in those schools suffered physical and sexual abuse. .Native people couldn't vote until the early sixties .How much money have big companies made from natural resources in Canada? Countless billions for sure .How much did native people get ?Nothing. They've been treated like crap from the second people came here from other places and it is still going on.The discrimination that many go through is terrible for employment and other things too.You still want to be treated like them? And are you absolutely sure that no one in your family was native? Many people out there do not know. You should stop hating and get the real facts.

You only have to look at the native land claim in Caledonia to see that things are askew... I mean, the OPP sit and watch while the law gets broken by the natives, and if someone tries defend themselves against it, they get arrested...
