We've only had him for about a week. I spend a little more time with him, but discipline is equal.

Dogs usually will see one person in the house as the pack leader. Since dogs are pack animals, they respect and love the pack animal more than others and will go to greater lengths to please them. While they will respect other members of the family and obey them and know that their place in the pack is beneath them, they will still only see one as the ultimate pack leader. Your dog has obviously chosen you.=)

How old is your dog? Were you married when you got the dog? Does your husband work and you stay home? Do you feed/walk the dog, do 90 - 95% of the care of the dog? Does your husband act gruff with the dog, fearful of the dog?

Without hearing the answers to the above questions, I can only guess. I would guess that the dog loves you 'more' because you do more with him. Because you are the primary care-giver.

If your husband really wants the dog to love him equally, he needs to get more involved in the dog's day-to-day care. Feed the dog. Walk the dog. Work on obedience with the dog.

Of course, this is all a guess, as I don't know your home situation!

If you are around a lot more than your husband and you have mainly been the one training your dog, that would be a good reason. You dog would be looking to you as the Alpha Dog (the pack leader). Your dog will be more loyal to you and obey you more. You dog will most likely look to your husband as another dog, an equal, a playmate. It's not that your dog loves either of you better, it's just you are more respected.

It may be that you interact more with the dog than your husband does. Maybe the dog gets away with more when it comes to you. A dog is sort of like a child, he may not love you more than your husband but maybe can act differently with you than with him. Possibly you're more affectionate toward the dog.

Animals have preferences just like people do. I always like to think my dog likes me better than my husband because the dog has good taste.
