I want to do the splits any suggestions on how to get closer? Please help! I dont want to take a stretch class.

Stretching is the only way. But still people are jointed differently so you still may not be able to do complete splits (where your crotch touches the floor) or Chinese splits (where your legs are both flat on the floor and your crotch still touches the floor. My friend and I would sit in the floor with our legs spread open she would place her feet on my upper thighs and press to help me stretch.

you can just stretch. each time trying to do a split, holding it as far as you can go. Yoga is also very good for stretching.

well darling stretching is the only way to do it........and stretching lots....it also helps if you relax slide that leg forward and just GO!
