Being new to Nascar is great, here's the scoop. Nascar covers three different races. First everyone's favorite Nextel Cup, then The Busch Series, and the Craftsman Truck Series. There's also the Elite and a few smaller where drivers get started but these are the most talked about.
to be a good fan you have to first realize it's the fastest growing sport nation wide and then some, and it's the only sport where you can watch so many teams competing at one time.
Next watch the opening race in Febuary the Bud Shootout and
decide after watching the drivers and the interveiws who you like
then find his / her car by number and paint scheme and cheer for them during the race. after that go online and see what is happening learn the teams the point system and the diffferent things that the drivers do outside of racing the more you learn the more you'll like it.
Now if that's to much the best way to be a fan is to relax sit back and crank it up and enjoy the race with others.

Watch every race, check nascar.com for information about the sport and the drivers, and the crashes are awesome along with all the conflicts between drivers like some throw things at other drivers cars and it gets pretty intense. Then I would find out who you like after a couple races and have a favorite driver or whatever I like Jeff Gordon #24 and the entire Hendrick Team but their are so many you just have to watch. The NASCAR season starts in February and ends in November and has a race every weekend except on major holidays and no matter what anyone says its not a sport for hilbillies and or rednecks and it is a sport. Its a great sport to watch, and the networks change constanly, for instance this season, in 2007, the first like 18 races or whatever are on FOX, hosted by the coolest announce ever Darrell Waltrip, and his famous boogity boogity boogity, since the biggest race of the year practically is Daytona the first race of the year you'll get to see him say that, and hes great, and then the last 18 or whatever are hosted by ESPN, NBC, and ABC. The last 10 races are considered the CHASE and they are making modifications so we really dont know how thats going to work this year. Last year however, at the final race before the last 10, the drivers in the top 10 in points were in the chase and whoever wasnt didnt make it and werent eligble for the CUP, and then theirs the point system which takes a little getting used to. Some big races are Daytona 500, Brickyard 400 (Indianapolis), Charlotte, All Star Challenge (not a race just a sporting event where the drivers race for a $1 million dollar bonus prize, Charlotte), Bristol, Talladega, Martinsville, and I think that about covers the huge races. You can also by merchandise and everything and buy tickets to the races. Once you watch you'll never stop.

I think the best thing to do is read NASCAR books. You learn all the drivers' stats, learn about tracks, learn NASCAR history, and learn all about the terms and so-called slang that is used during a race. Reading books really helped me understand all the details of NASCAR, and now I'm a diehard who knows a whole lot about NASCAR.

Also, there's nothing better than actually watching the races. You will quickly get to know the drivers, teams, and all about NASCAR in general if you watch the races. Some of them are really long, and to a new fan like yourself, you may get bored because you don't fully understand all the racing terms and action. But, if you keep watching, you'll suddenly understand everything. Then, you will know about all the awesome stuff going on during a race.

Nascar is a sport that you can learn a lot about by just watching every week. There are alot of good web sites too. Nascar.com is really good and keeps you up to date about everything happening in the sport. A good nascar fan is a true fan. We stand up for our favorite driver and sport. We are called every name in the book by idiots who don't understand the sport or thrill of it. Going to races is a huge thrill and something you will never forget. Once you have been to your first race you will understand what all the excitement is about. My best advice is to watch your first race and then decide what you think. Some tracks are better then others to watch on TV and some you can't really appreciate unless you go to the track. But i am sure you will enjoy it any way you watch it.

NASCAR is mostly a blue-collar sport because of it's fan base in the South. However in the 21st century, NASCAR is now becoming a white-collar sport, because of new youthful sponsors and expansion into the West Coast, which was virtually unkown to NASCAR about 25 years ago. To be a good fan, you either have to be a mechanic or a die-hard fan of 2 ton cars roaring down asphalt at speeds excess of 200 mph. It's easy to catch on as a fan, but you gotta understand the concepts of racing if you're gonna gain respect as a NASCAR fan.

it is an amazing sport. the cars go 150 -200 mph and like race 2 in from each other and the crashes.....wow! the sport just as some peole say has rowdy fans, but honest to goodness every fan i have met is a good down to earth person. So dont go in thinkin it will just be a bunch of rude, ignorant people (like the tittle we have gotten). Many of the drivers are so appreciative of the fans and to be a good fan, just be urself. but dont be rude, it gets annoying. follow ur driver make sure u support ur driver through the thick and thin, that is what matter the most of all the support u give them everyday, not just the race days or during the season. Every day counts!

The easy and best one to truly become a NASCAR fan is to watch the Daytona 500 in February. Pick a driver from this event and follow them thru the year. The ups - and downs, the lost chance at victory, the way the crew helps them, these things make it fun to watch. Also Goggle their name -- read up on them a little, get to know something about the driver, adds to the sport viewing more. Also if you have cable, the Speed Channel helps alot with this.

NASCAR is one of the biggest sports that attracks people from all states. Not just a blue collar sport. It might have started in the south, but it is nationwide now. Pick a good NASCAR web site and read up on it. Good Luck and happy racing.

Okay its Simple, and yes it is a sport, if anyone tells you different they are wrong, the phisical stress a driver goes through on his body durring a 500 mile race in the heat is equivalent to that of a maraton runner, it was proven scientifically. Anyway you have to pick a driver to like, the reason doesn't really matter, and one or two to hate. Watch the races know whos doing godd and who isn't. The wreaks are the best. Curse the COT and Toyota, be proud that you are a fan and don't be affraid to show it.
