Actually you seems to be the close minded and ignorant one for asking that question. Have you ever heard that you shouldn't generalize people? well! You shouldn't. that is NOT fair.

I think "close minded" & "ignorant" are sort of synonomous. Perhaps the question is which came first. I sincerely believe that some "might" get out of the box if they UNDERSTOOD THE HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY. So there you go. You aren't ignorant if you're well informed. If they're comfortable with their "belief" go for it. I have NEVER tried to convert a Christian to Atheisim, wish they gave me the same respect.
Edit: debi_lock...I'd never DREAM of asking a Christian a question. Someone else said the question was ignorant; if anything, the asker is well informed by the Q&A on R&S. As for Valley R--Christians wanting what's best for ME? ONLY I KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR ME. Telling me I'm a sinner & will burn in hell if I don't do as YOU do doesn't seem a palatable choice.
Last Edit: In all fairness, I AGREE with those who said it was "generalized." I'd certainly have rephrased it, (if I were to ask it at all). I've taken my knocks in this category, but such an absolute--more than implying all Christians are close minded & ignorant--is not NICE. Perhaps we Atheists are getting a bit too testy, perhaps we all are. How sad.

Atheists are just as closed minded an ignorant, as are all other religious people.
So long as Atheists DON'T even give God a tad of possiblity, they are just as closed minded as Christians or Muslims. They see one side. Their side. That's it.
Ignorance. Some people think ignorance is bliss!
If Christians are so closed minded and ignorant, why is it that a Catholic Priest proposed the scientific theory of the start of universe that is currently accepted (Big Bang), why is the father of Geneics a Catholic Abbott.
Do you know why the Priest's explaination of the start of the Universe became accepted. Becaused he predicted background Gamma Radiation that was discovered much later with radio telescopes.
It replaced Atheist Dr. Hoyle's favorite theory, Steady State, which was the accepted view until the Gamma Rays were confirmed right where they were predicted to be by the Catholic Priest.
Einstein, who was in the audence when that theory was proposed, KNEW it was correct because of the Gamma Radiation signature prediction.

Funny thing is Non-Christians are just as ignorant and closed minded. People always hold strongly to their beliefs or non beliefs. Ever argue what football team is the best with a packer fan? I rest my case! Here is a simple question. If Christianity is correct, why be open minded about it?

Some christians are, but most people in my church are well educated and seem to try their best to be open minded. They go to church regular and are honest. As to being ignorant is a strong statement for anyone to make, especially if all they do is to set back and criticize someone when they don't know what they are talking about.

Making a generalization like the one you made in asking your question is what I would consider being close-minded and ignorant.

According to this poll there are no close-minded people on earth.
Just ask anyone this question: “Do you belong to a really dogmatic and close-minded religion or do you have the tendency to think independently about religious matters?”
Most people will tell you they think of themselves as independent thinkers, even if they belong to a religious sect defined as orthodox or even extremist.
According to this poll, there are no religious people in the world, only freethinkers!

The word ignorant is uncalled for in your question. Tolerance and understanding is something you apparently don't have in asking this question the way you did. Absolute thinkers like you within a religion or not, cause the wars we have all over the world.

I think once you feel you have found the answer you are left with contentment. There is no need to look any further. I am close minded for this reason. I am not ignorant in any fashion.

Examine your definition of close minded and ignorant. Sometimes our perspective blocks our true meaning of others.
Just a suggestion. God Bless. Merry Christmas Time and Happy New Year.
