There's a few thigs you can try about the garbage.

1. When your dog gets in the garbage, get the loudest peice of garbage, like a gorcery bad, and smack him with it. Dogs are usually afraid of the sound of garbage, beleive it or not.

2. Put some hot sauce around the rim of the garbage. Dogs CANNOT stand hot sauce. Most of the time!

3. If your dog isn't bothered by the hot sauce, get things together that you think he won't like. When you offer it to him, and he backs up, or runs off, then put that all around the garbage, and that should keep him away from it.

About the table.....when you leave, your dog wants to know where you are. So he gets on the highest available post, to look for you. He probly has a seperation anxiety, so here's a few hints to get rid of the seperation anxiety, and a few ti[s about the the table.

1. Put the chairs upside down, on the table. Like the restaurants do, when they go to clean the floors. That will keep him from getting up ther.

2. Put him in a crate, or an area of the house he can't destroy, or get out of. Just make sure you put him in it more then just when you leave. That way, he won't see the crate as you leaving and try to destroy it, or create a BIG problem!!

3. Put some sort of window next to the door you walk out of. He will look out that window, instead of trying the table. Make sure he can see you walking to the car, getting in, and driving off. When he hears the car pull up, he can look out that window again, and see that you are home.

Seperation.......

1. Ignore him for at least 15 minutes before you leave. Don't make a big fuss about you leaving, otherwise he'll only think you've abandoned him.

2. Put him in his own area for a little while, alone. He needs to get used to the fact that he can't be around you at all times. This will help him to realize that he doesn't need to be so dependant on you for every single thing.

3. If he becomes to bothersome, put him on a chain outside, while you're gone. Leash him, and walk him to a part of the yard you don't mind getting dug up, and torn to peices. He will be upset that you left him, so he'll want to destroy something. Better your yard, then your table!!

Does he have enough toys at home? Maybe if he had someone else to play with, he won't be such a pain. My dog is a single pet, in the living room that is. And he used to chew on things, and poop everywhere!! It was because I was making a big deal about leavin. So I started ignoring him before I left, then put him on his chain, outside. He stopped chewing on things when we got him some fun toys, and stopped going potty in the house when I put him on his chain.

I'm not saying get him a companion if you can't handle it, or afford it. But if you think everything would be fine, and he better off, then go for it!

The link below goes into further detail about seperation anxiety. Hope it's of help to you, and good luck!!

Crate him.

IMO, crates have saved the lives of countless dogs. If a dog is crated, they can't get into trouble. When the owners come home, the let the dog out of the crate, love up on him. When owners of badly-behaved, uncrated dogs come home, they scream at the dog for actions the dog did hours before and barely remembers, if he remembers at all.

When the owners tally up the costs of the damage the dog has done and it starts reaching near $1,000, they take it to the pound. Where the adult, untrained, dog is most likely euthanized.

Thus a crate, for less than $200, would have saved the life of the dog.

There are many sites on the net on crate training. Crates are NOT punishment. They are a safe, secure spot to hold a dog when no one is home. They are a 'bedroom' for the dog, a place the dog can go and not be bothered by anyone.

Sometimes the best you can do is to dog proof the house. Don't leave things on the table that the dog would want to get into. Get a trash can with a lid that snaps or shuts tight that your dog can't get into and/or store your trash in a closet where your dog can't get to it.

If you are not gone for too long, you might want to crate your dog to keep him out of trouble. You didn't say what age he is. I have three dogs and I used crates to train them while they were young and wanting to get into everything. It helped them not to start with bad habits. I also provided plenty of chew toys and items that were oaky for the dogs.

I had a German Shepherd that despite all training could just not resist garbage if it was not put away securely. So I put it in a closet with a tight fitting lid.

Try putting a chair on the table -- that's what I do to keep my dogs off the couch during the day.

As for the garbage -- shut all bathroom doors, and put any other garbage cans up on the cabinets when you leave (or buy the metal kind that you use your foot to open the cover, like this one for example: http://www.amazon.com/Arcosteel-20-Liter-Stainless-Steel-Trash/dp/B0006FLZMQ). Dogs can get REALLY sick from eating human leftovers!!! Good luck! :-)

If the dog is actually getting onto the table while you are home (I agree with the others about crating him while you are gone) - put a few mousetraps on the table. They trained my boxer in 2 nights to stay off of the couch while we were sleeping. Depending on the length of hair on your dog, PetsMart has similar things that make more of a noise than a pinch, but they are not as effective.

Maybe you need to put him in a room or basement and leave him there until you come home.
It seems cruel but you need to make a home for him somewhere else so hes not tempted.

I would usually take the garbage out then I bought a taller garbage bin so it was harder to get to.

1. Crate him when you are not home. It will keep him from getting into things.
2. as for the garbage, try getting one of those trashcans where you hit the button and the top opens up. That way there's something between your trash and your pup.

what you can do is have like a portable kennel inside so you can put him in it and then the next time try not putting him it the kennel to see what he does. but you could a camera in the kitchen and then watch it when you get home and if he did not go on the table then reward him but if he did go on the table then say bad boy to him and shake your finger at him.

You could kennel l it when you are gone, or keep it in one room. There are "Stay Away" sprays at Petsmart or Petco called Boundary. I use Boundary for my cats to stay away from the christmas tree.
