There are good and bad points to both, so neither of them can really be "better". It's just according to a person's wants and needs, their personal idea of what life should be like if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend or remain single. It's all up to the individual and their own lifestyle choices.

I think being single is a lot better than being in a relationship. Your free to up and go, meet guy friends, hang out with whomever you want. And its not so bad being single (with no kid) because you have all the time to yourself to have fun and do whatever you want. Friends that is in a relationship have conversations that go I don't know why he does that, I don't know I like this other guy, he's being a jerk, I can't stand it anymore, we broke up and go through all the drama, not to mention how you long you been together the harder to let go whereas the single one is hey, you want to go out friday night? I'll see you then mmmmwwwaaah!

If your lifestyle is to enjoy sensual pleasures, then definitely a boy/girl friend is better than being single.

However, if you are seriously practicing some form of good meditation and your mind is in the higher level of peace and happiness, then mundane sensual pleasures are so insignificant and inferior compare to the happiness in meditation, then of course, you would be better of being single.

May be you're not understanding what I am talking about, but that's alright. Not too many people understand that either.

Neither is better. If there's someone you like, be with them. If there isn't, better be single than going out with someone you don't really like.

Single, definitely. Why bother putting up with someone else's neuroses when you can focus completely on your own needs? Besides, you won't be distracted from what really matters, that being work, hobbies, and friends. Go for it.

it depends. being single has its perks, but it gets lonely after awhile. however, you don't want to be stuck in a relationship with a jerk or someone who's not compatible with you. you don't have to have every single thing in common, but if you're not compatible with someone, you're not going to have fun with them (i.e. you like to go out, your girl-/boyfriend likes to sit at home and watch movies all day). personally, i don't need a man, but if a good catch comes along, i'd like to have him.
