I'm not looking to lose weight. I'm 9.5stone and I feel very happy with that weight. The problem is, lately, I've started eating a lot of bad stuff - several chocolate bars at one sitting. I know if I carry on like this, I'll gain weight uncontrollably, but I can't seem to stop myself. I've been through stints in the past where I would lose a stone in the first half of the year and gain it back in the second half - unhealthy I know.
It seems as though my eating is for comfort. I am definately not hungry when I eat. I don't think I've felt hungry for the last two weeks. I can feel physically sick and I'll still eat. What's wrong with me and how can I stop this. I look forward to pigging out on chocolate 24 hours a day and it's taking over my life :-(

My mom goes on chocolate binges and I know that eating to the point where youre sick is a problem that Ive dealt with as well. There isnt any magical solution, itll take time and willpower. Theres nothing wrong with you at all, so dont worry about it. I had the same problem you had, only my comfort food was goldfish. And I dont eat them at all anymore. it can be done!

What it came down to for me was I didnt have enough good foods in my diet. I would starve myself all day and pig out at night. So I started with a small goal: I had to eat breakfast every morning. If i craved goldfish, I would buy the little lunchbox-sized portions (this was the hard part for me). Denying yourself waht you crave leads to binges. Little by little, I found that the more i replaced goldfish with healthy foods, the less goldfish I ate.
Next time your buying groceries, fill your cart with healthy foods and a smaller bag of chocolate. Throw away any junk food you have in your house. Remember: it takes time, and you may slip up sometimes, but the most important thing is to NEVER GIVE UP. This isnt a once-in-a-lifetime shot at being healthy, its just life. Be patient, know that youre allowed to make mistakes, and dont deprive yourself!

Dear Xenophonix,

I have had this problem lately as well as you. The cause to this problem may be you are not distracted by many things. You may be board or you may be staying at home to much, therefore you are trying to do something and since you cannot think of anything you eat a lot, and make that sort of your hobby. I am not joking, I am telling you this from my experience.
You have to go out and do something or go out with your friends, not if you don't have ones to hang out with, you may just have them during school, or if this is your vacation then after you go back to school or work everything will be fine, alright. Our human mind is very complicated when it cannot figure something to do it will do something that should not be done, like keeping on thinking about not eating, but then saying no I want to eat. So stop thinking about eating, and go out and pass your time doing something. It was a pleasure helping you and here is a very good quote to motivate you.
"We eat to live, not live to eat." by Benjamin Franklin.

God's helper.

That's definately a problem and one that I face myself actually. What I've found the best thing is to do: throw out those chocolate bars and go to your grocery store and buy healthy foods. Like they actually have little chocolate treats that have very low carbs in the nutrition section. But, take it one step at a time. First, instead of constantly pigging out on chocolate and other unhealthy foods, throw them out and replace them with something like an apple or carrot. At this point, you'll still have a bit of a problem with eating, but it'll be with healthy foods.

At this point, try to think of something you'd like to improve in or something you enjoy immensely (besides eating). When you get bored and feel like eating something even though you're not hungry, try to do that thing that you'd like to improve on. For an example, let's say you got an urge to eat a Nestle's Cruch bar. Instead of pulling it out, distract yourself and pull out a sketchpad and try drawing and/or writing. Get your mind AWAY from the food.

This is what I've found works fairly well. And if that still isn't working, I would highly recommend talking to your doctor. You're right, it's NOT healthy to eat like that.

What's wrong with you? You've got an obsession and that's it. However, any obsession can be broken. NEVER give up no matter how pointless it seems.

You are probably enjoying the temporary happy feeling that comes from eating sugar and chocolate, so maybe you are feeling down or depressed and don't realize it. Try to cut back gradually and add in healthier things so that your blood sugar is steady and you don't crave sweets to feel good. Also add in some exercise for endorphins, but if that doesn't help then it might be a good idea to see a therapist or your doctor.

Only a dead person does not eat. To cut down or what you are eating, you really have to want to stop or continue to eat but burn it off with exercise. I lost 25 pounds in one and a half months and I've kept my lower weight just by not eating when I'm not hungry. As for eating chocolates, I'm addicted too. I have Hershe's Kisses peanut butter and mint in my drawer at work amongst other things so I just eat then I cut down in other foods.

If you know your eating for comfort then stop and do something else when you feel like eating, like exercising, or call a friend, or if you must eat...eat low calorie treats. You can eat a lot of vegetables and not gain weight. And find something that will tie up you time...join a club or a group.

Try taking fiber supplements regularly. You can buy it from the store in capsules which are easier to take. What this does it gets rid of your cravings, gives you the feeling of being full so it cuts down your food intake. And you need to drink lots of water if you wanna try this.

Hunny, we have the same problem. literally, I CAN'T stop eating. We just need to control and do some things that will distract us from eating.Like dance or sleep instead of eating. Do you know that you burn more calories sleeping than watching tv? good luck..
