I'm a trucker. I've waited 3 years for a speeding ticket I got in Illinois to come off my record. Which will happen on 1-13-07. Last night I was ticketed on the Ohio Turnpike for 74 in a 65. Which most police would likely issue a warning on. I was trying to pass a car who would drive super slow when I was behind him in the right lane. Then the jerk in the car would speed up as I try to pass him.
I explained this to the trooper, but he didn't care one bit. He was obviously trying to meet his quota for the month of December with just 5 days to go. I've been wanting to change jobs from a grueling Over-the-road job to a local job that would allow me to be home nightly with my family. The local job is hard to get, and with a speeding ticket, it would be that much more difficult to get it. To me this is a petty ticket, and the trooper is a jerk. I told him I was trying to change jobs, and he didn't care one bit. He gets to be with his family every day. What a hero !!

I would definitely do a lot of research on Ohio traffic laws. I would fight it.

Also, were you "caught on radar" while you were trying to pass the jerk? Because if you were, the fact that there was more than one car on the road obviously speeding can greatly affect a radar gun's capabilities and accuracies.

Was it cloudy? Or raining? Those also affect a radar gun. Was this a straight-away? Was it around a turn? Was the trooper checking your speed from the other side of the car? Were there other cars besides you and the jerk on the road?

Make a play-by-play of what happened, including as much specific detail as you can about where everyone was. Radar guns are not infinitely accurate. Research radar guns and compare to your situation. If you can cause reasonable doubt in the judge's eyes as to whether the trooper got a precise speed from his gun, you have a good chance of getting charges dropped.

Good luck--I know how bad speeding tickets are for truck drivers. I hate inconsiderate drivers! Just run 'em over next time!

I saw you other post where you were bashing one of the previous answers and I thought I'd try to help you, but then I saw you actual post (question) and saw what your attitude is really like. I'd say, from you obvious attitude, you got exactly what you deserved--the ticket.
Be glad that's all you got. I was a deputy sheriff for 22 years and never carried a traffic ticket book. My only choice was to give you a verbal warning or take you to jail. Which choice do you think you would have gotten???
Oh, and I didn't have any "quotas", just a job to do.
That's the price you pay for the games you play.

Happy New Year. Hope you enjoy you old job--looks like you'll have it awhile longer.

I know how you feel about the injustice of how some tickets are given. You are right, and anyone who thinks that all traffic cops and meter maids don't have a quota to make, is out of touch with reality.

Yes! Go to court and ask for mercy. I have found going to court and pleading my case actually pays off. All I had to pay was the court costs and my ticket was thrown out.

That's only two, although I understand what you mean about having them on your license. You might be able to get the local job anyway, if you check into it.

Don't you hate drivers that do that. They speed up when they know you are trying to pass.

you ask to have your case heard before the local magistrate before your court date
he/she hears your case and you pay fines WITHOUT getting any points
its that simple
