I am wanting ideas of what to do and see while in England. I probably won't be able to go for a year but I am doing some searches now. I don't want to do the touristy type things. I want to see as much as possible the real England not the tourist traps. Thanks in advance!!!!

I suspect that you are a student or a young ladySo nice to see a question posed in correct English.First thing to do is to buy a student rail or bus pass. The best places of course attract tourists. We have youth hostels everywhere cheap plus a good way to meet others like you. Please visit London if only for a few days.Take a boat down to Greenwich then the other way to Richmond both beautiful old towns to see.Go to the Lake District spectacular scenery plus Shakespeares home Stratford on Avon.Bath is also a nice place to visit also Windsor.I could go on forever.Send me an e mail I can give you more information. Please contact the English Tourist Board for maps and guidance prior to depature.Have a great holiday.Stay happy

There is a lovely area northwest of London, Shropshire, which is also the most rural. It contained charming little towns near the Welsh border--Telford and Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury is an absolutely fetching town with mostly English tourists--you won't find many foreigners there!
It's easily accessible by train from London with a connection in Birmingham. Trains are frequent and you can visit Wales easily from Shrewsbury, too. Stratford-on-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace, is also in eastern Shropshire. It's a bit more touristy because of it's obvious notoriety.
The downside about staying away from the tourist traps is that there are less hotels and the ones that are there tend to be a bit more expensive. But you get more bang for your buck, as they say. There are numerous official and non-official Shropshire tourist sites Online--just Google "Shropshire tourism" or "Shrewsbury tourism." These towns are filled with lots of history--castles and the like. There are many old churches and abbies worth visiting. The Severn river curls around Shrewsbury providing a wonderful backdrop to the hilly countryside. There's also a great deal of shopping to do.

Cornwall is a beautiful county in England-our most southern. You can take your pick where in Cornwall to visit because each village-coastal or not, is lovely. So from Tintagel to The Lizard/Lands End- you could tour down. King Arthurs castle is at Tintagel so it is said. A beautiful coastal walk is from The cliffs above Polzeath beach to St Enedoc church in Daymer bay. The church used to be buried in the sand but the villagers dug it out and restored it. John Betjemen the poet is buried there. Catch the ferry across from Rock to Padstow both beautiful coastal villages and be sure to try Kelly's Cornish ice cream and Rodders clotted cream on your jam and scones. Enjoy your stay when you come and wherever you finally decide to visit.
