If you're in the early stages of dating, there's no problem. I'm guessing you're not up by the Canadian border or she by Cape May which would make things more difficult, certainly, but not impossible. I live in NJ and have dated a woman in TX for almost a year. If you use the distance as an excuse, you're doomed. Remember, also, that your phone calls/emails/IMs are integral to your relationship. Don't trivialize them.
If the relationship continues to progress, there will come a point when you'll want to be together daily. You'll probably arrive at this point at different times, but the time will come - definitely. That will create whole new issues - who moves, who might have to change jobs, etc. But that's down the road - enjoy what you have now.

Jersey and New York? Are you even calling that long distance? They're right next door! I live in South Jersey and I can be in the city in about an hour. That's nothing!

Are you kidding? My best friend dates a guy from NJ and he lives in the middle of no where and they've been going out 3 years. Where does she live??
Does she live in Hoboken or does she live down in liek southern NJ? Relationships are what you make of them. If you want it to last it will, if you dont want it to last it wont. Put some effort into it.
