i just got a parakeet for christmas. i looked online and read stuff about him. but he never makes a sound and everytime i am around he just stands in one spot. i play music for him but he doesnt sing or make any noise. i understand that he might be scared. but it seems like he knows who i am now. what is wrong?

1. "i understand that he might be scared"... Excellent deduction Sherlock. He is a prey animal whose life completely changed in the blink of an eye and he finds himself in completely unfamiliar surroundings with completely strange people (prey animals) surrounding him.

2, "...it seems like he knows who i am now..." He has observed that the same potential predator keeps coming around...

3. "...what is wrong?" Nothing. Give him time to become aquainted with his new surroundings and with you. Don't freak out and don't freak him out. He's a BIRD, not a new puppy!!!

It's normal for your bird to be scared of the new surroundings. It's very possible that for the first few days you won't see your new bird eat, drink, or even move. This is all normal. Just give him some time to acclimate.
