sorry...he's coming home from his deployment to Afghanistan

The song is great for those who are coming home to families and loved ones who waited for them....I guess when I posted this question I didn't realize that a great number of them are coming home to broken homes and no one at all....

so with that in mind please suggest songs that would be great for everyone...thanks

"Galveston" Glen Travis Campbell (no, my song from Vietnam)

Coming Home Soldier - Bobby Vinton no but dated, good song
still

"The Girl I left behind" English/ US Army Indian Wars traditional:
a mostly 1st CAVsong, but suitable for all troops!

The Way We Were barbra Streisand

The rare song: theme from the 60's movie "The Sand Pebbles"
"And we were lovers" you'd never locate it.

The Australian 60's song by the Seekers: "Another You'
"I know that there will never be another, you" goes on about a journey and such, very much one of the best love themes.

Perhaps I will add some later,

I came home many times three times from Vietnam.

Although my Mrs wonders about that last time.

Doc

I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I''ll be back again....LOL....I was just joking. If I were you I would play that song, and a bunch of others. That way there is music in the background while people are chatting and eating.

From experience, you are going to make a bigger deal out of him coming home than he will. He is glad to get home, he won't care to much about the music, or the snacks, or how many people are there. He is just glad to be there with you and the kids (?). Most guys are going to drop dead tired when they get home, and they are known to come home at 2 am and on. Don't force to much on him right off. Give him a chance to breath. Tell the family you love them but you aren't letting them sleep in the hallway to the bedroom and on the couch. (They tried, I sent them to a hotel before he landed). I know my hubby appreciated it. Just love him, that's all he wants.

And before I get a thumbs down for any reason, I have been there done that too many times. I love his family and mine, and so does he. But it got to be I wouldn't tell anyone when he left or returned until I and he were ready. Most everyone got the picture when he got home because I would not answer the phone. Once he was ready to have company, I would tell people. But I loved my HERO enough to give him space. He needed to readjust to live for a few days before being bombarded. I was taking care of my soldier. As for the first line, by request, I made each of the guys in the platoon a mix cd for the flight over to the sandbox and the first song was that one. I was in tears when the night they left out you could hear it on the intercom of the bus leaving and you could hear it as they boarded the plane.

They play music just before the guys get through the doors from customs at the DFW Airport for each flight of returning soldiers. they start with Lee Greenwood's Pledge of allegiance and follow that with Reba singing God Bless America. Play what ever means something to him, my son was so blown away by all the well wishers and the emotion of seeing his wife that it was several days before he even connected the music. I also went door to door and asked if I could tie yellow ribbons on each mail box on our street. When we drove down the street almost everyone of our neighbors had put their flags out as well. It brought tears to his eyes to know people cared so much.

Play it for him. When he comes home and looks into your eyes. hugs you and feels you close. That will show him what he was fighting for and he will love every minute of it. The music you play will be made so much a part of that moment that he will never forget it. You are the one he's coming home to and anything you do will be his greatest gift. And you'll be the bow on top of that gift.

Which branch of the Service is He in, and do They have a particular "Theme" which You could play, just in case He doesn't remember what it is like to know that people are proud of Him and what He has done? If all else fails, play "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", because now is when His is going to start!!!!!

Well it would help if you told us where he was coming home from. Is it the hospital or rehab or Iraq or what ever. Is he coming home from the grocery store?
