Definitely you need to get more organized and systematic. Some suggestions:

1) organize a study area at home...a quiet place with no distractions and a clean work surface with everything you need at hand (e.g. calculator, pens/pencils, erasers, reference materials, etc.)

2) Pay attention in class; take good notes. Also, participate in class discussions; ask questions if you have any.

3) See the teachers for additional help/clarification if you need it

4) Do your homework daily, keep up with your reading and work

5) When you get tests back, review and make sure you understand every last thing you got wrong.

6) Periodically review all of your notes in a subject, to keep topics more fresh in your mind... try to cut back on the cramming at exam time.

7) Eat well and exercise as it will help you feel and think better

8) Rest well the night before tests

You can do this. Get in the groove and make it happen. The discipline you bring here will benefit you in so many ways in your life. BEST OF LUCK.

First learn to listen in class, its a key take down notes, if nothing else, take down questions about things you dont understand and then ask the teacher.
Second outline your reading. It doesnt have to be pretty, its for you. Key points are good. If you are bad at that xerox the reading pages and high light and put in margin notes or do it directly in the book if you own it.
If you can buy second hand books, buy them from a good student, the highlighting is already in it.
Go over key points each night, not just the night before the exam. You are not doing ok if you lost five papers out of seven that is a failing grade. All papers are handed in on time even if they are not perfect. You will at least get credit for doing it.
