For Christmas, my dad bought a brand-new digital camera but the only problem is that it won't turn on at all. We bought brand new batteries and we even replaced the small lithium CR1220 battery that's inside that little compartment thingy. i even looked at their website for any troubleshooting tips they might have. if anyone has had the same or similar problem and has found a solution please let me know. thanx

First - look into sending it to Canon if it's under warranty. Secondly I would bet it is related to the battery compartment or memory card door. There are switches for both and if either are opened it will prevent the camera from turning on. I have seen battery doors that have a small problem that prevents the battery door switch from being pushed although the door is fully closed.
I have to say that the problem was caused from a good impact to the bottom of the camera though.
Also make sure the batteries are inserted correctly. If you have an A/C cable check to see if it powers up with that instead. If it will then it is likely either the type or orientation of the batteries... or still possibly a problem with the power supply circuitry in the camera.

Well if you are desperate go out and buy some Lithium batteries for it. If it still doesn't work, then back she goes to the shop.
