Sex is the best way. Try relaxing your body when lying down. Close you mind to all outside noise. Start from your head all the way down to the tips of your toes and relax. You do this by picturing in your mind that all the parts of you body, and name them to yourself, are relaxed. You can say for example,
"My eyes are very sleepy and picture that in your mind as if all the stress is going out and into a river or ocean, etc.
I do this an it works every time. I never get very far before I am fast asleep.

I can't believe people are telling you to exercise. Exercising too close to bed-time will actually keep you awake. But daily exercise is good, just make sure you do it at least 4 - 6 hours before you go to bed. Try to get up at the same time every day and go to bed at the same time every night. Don't drink caffeine after 5:00. If your problem is that you lie there and worry or think over things, then maybe your Dr. can prescribe you Xanax to get you off to sleep. I have the same problem with insomnia, I tried Ambien, it worked well at first, but it no longer works for me and I've been hearing about some scary side-effects on the news. There are lots of different sleep-aids out there, but you can't take any of them for very long, so it's not a permanent fix, so it's better to find more natural ways of falling asleep. Here's a relaxation tip that I've tried before, Lie on your back, tense up every muscle in your body, from your neck down to your toes. Starting at your toes, slowly relax each tensed muscle, while taking deep, slow, calming breaths. After you have relaxed each muscle, continue to take relaxing breaths. It might help you, good Luck.
P.S.- If you are a worrier, then take a note-book to bed and write any worries down. Then tell yourself that there is nothing you can immediately do about them since it's the middle of the night, and that in the morning you'll read them and find solutions with a clear mind.

Go to the doctor and get a prescription for Ambien. I've been on this medication for over a year, and it's the best sleep I've ever had. You are out in 30 minutes, and you don't have that "draggy" feeling the next day like Tylenol PM and other over-the-counter medications give you. I had insomnia for years before I opted the prescription, and could've kicked myself for not doing it sooner. Life is so much better now. Try it.

I have read that sex helps you sleep. It is just like taking a valium. I forgot which website I've read this on but try to have sex more often. If you are already and it's not working then ask the doc for some sleeping pills or something.

Sure.
Go to stores like Walmart and buy The Step.
Put it by your bed.
Before you go to bed, step up and down for 5-15 minutes.
Again when you wake up in the morning, 5-15 minutes.
After a few days you will start sleeping better.
