I've never tried chicken, but I've done beef in the gas oven. I just soaked it with soy sauce, but you wouldn't want it salty or spicy for an animal. A lot of venison is used for jerky around here.

really its easy. Just season it up how you like it but since its for your dog it would be better not to season it so that it doesn't irriate his/her stomach. Then cut into strips and lay on the shelves of the dehydrator. Put on the lid, turn it on and wait until its done.
