umm well he gets eaten. its unknown if he dies but he's in the third movie, so maybe they bring him back to life! ;)

It does appear so at the end, but I believe he didn't die. After all, they have already shot Pirates of the caribbean 3.

Yes and no. I think he did die, but the crew is going to go get his (soul? or ghost?) back from some other side of the grave world, in the third movie. So he's dead but not for long. Like Capt. Barbossa. He was dead and now he's alive.

in an interview a little while ago, johnny depp accidentally let slip some information about a scene he had been rehearsing for potc3. im really sorry, i cant remember any of the details, but he is definitely in the third film.

Yes, because they talk about going back to beyond the grave to get Jack back. He's going to appear in the next movie, but he is dead.

If you really want to spoil the ending:
You see him do a very heroic pose and lunge at the mouth of the Kraken. Whether or not he actually dies? We don't see that.
