I want to purchase a flat tv and after much deliberation thinking of Sony bravia LCD 1080p.I was told that apart from requesting for a HD programming , I may now need to upgrade my DVD player as well (since the DVDs will not be as sharp as it is now on a regular TV) !! I find this surprising to believe. I am told that I have to go for either a blue-ray or a dvd upgrader/converter. Does anybody have this issue. Did you have to buy another dvd player that goes with a LCD ? I have a perfectly working sony dvd player that gives good images in my regular GE TV. Upgrading to a LCD/Plasma means requesting special HD programming as well as changing DVD player ??

"Early Adopters" such as you buy all the stuff - that sometimes doesn't work out - and get stuck with it as the improved article evolves, becoming 'bigger, better, faster, more'. I'm leaving it for another 18 months until everything settles down.

i have a sony 720p. i have all sony components that go with it.
(dvd surr.sound) the dvd player is fine. picture is great. my bro inlaw just got the 1080i.. and i see no difference in his tv and mine

let me tell you some downsides....
1.basic cable does not look great on an lcd tv. kind of blurry.
2 you have to pay your cable company to get high def.(6 bucks?)
3 there arent many channels in high def yet.
4 i cant play my playstation2 on the tv because there is about a 1 -2 second delay to the tv. sony support was no help!
5. plasmas are phasing out. known to burn in screen images
even the salesman talked me out of it. saved me about 900 bucks!

any dvd player will work on this. i dont not have a blue ray and the pic is great.

dont fall for the 100 dollar hdmi cables.....walmart 30 bucks...and thats if you even want to use them

In short - no. The technology is 'backwards compatible' ie will display your DVD/SKY/whatever fine. It won't be in HD unless it comes from an HD signal (like some of the SKY channels. HD will take years to roll out accross the board. Go for the higher/highest screen resolution.

You have plenty of time to get a new TV. there should be at least 18 to 24 months before we have the conversion. wait see what new and improved items come out between now and 18 months

on your use, I propose getting a liquid crystal reveal reveal with the aid of fact that is greater verasatile and priced greater affordable. seem to maintain on getting a 720p reveal extremely than 1080p, with the aid of fact the variation is rather significant with the reveal length yet you're making keep lots. you additionally can opt to envision your cable service on getting a digital container to reveal a miles better image on your reveal and according to danger an upconvert dvd participant (which could be got here across for below $a hundred now) to get HD high quality on your movies.
