i had this problem a few weeks ago. It went on for ages until i fixed it myself. The shops will charge you for doing such a small thing. All you do is take out the whole board with the fan on it. Open the fan up, taking off the screws and clean it preferably with a hoover taking away all the dust. Then reattach the screws, put the board back in and it may make the noise a couple of times when you start up the computer but after the 5th time the noise should have gone. My pc is about 6 years old so it should work for yours definetly. I hope this helps

Some cheaper fans are naturally noisy. If the fan used to be quieter then a bearing may be going bad. If its a bearing it will never get better. If you are handy measure the fan and go buy a new one. Buy one that features low noise. Good luck.

If it's buzzing, ticking, or vibrating really loud, like mechanical noise, it's probably a bad bearing, and may get worse and worse, or it may wear in and shut up. Either way, the fan will stop working prematurely, which isn't good.
If it's just loud air noise, it's probably a aerodynamically poor design and is moving air inefficiently around the blades.

If it hasn't always made noise, have it replaced because bad bearing produce heat and that's the reason the thing is there in the first place. If it's always sounded like a turbine (like mine) it may be because you have a hot processor that requires plenty of breeze, big daddy.

Take the cover off and blow it or use a vaccum on it do not touch anything else. Make sure the vents on side of casing are open and free from fluff and dirt.

Hard drives do not have fans. Processors do, as do cases. What fan are you talking about?
