took her into the vet and they say its a tumor, not sure if cancerous or malignent. They can run tests but cannot perform thr surgery. Is there a possibility of it being some kind of irritation from something she ate that may have got stuck or am I just reaching? I can't afford the estimated cost the vet gave us to go through what may be a a slim chance at a successful operation. Is there any type of help at uc davis or anywhere else in northern California that coul help out?

I appreciate all the responses but to respond. The lump is in her throat; ie; esophagus, a normal vet cannot perform a removal procedure. The tests will run about six to eight hundred. That is not including any procedure to eliminate the lump. She is nine and a half years old and has been a very dedicated companion. Someone originally dumpede her out of a car on highway 113 west of yuba city and I spent over six hundred dollars to get her fixed up as a pup, but I don't know if I can afford all of the necessary steps to try to save her> the last thing I want to do is euthanize her. She is to peaceful a dog.

It can most certainly be a tumor, but that is up to your vet to decide. Have them run a full biopsy and scan to determine whether or not it is malignent. If it is, and you cannot afford the operation, you might as well take your furry friend to an adoption center and let them care for it, or you can do the not very wise option ofeuthanizing it. Again, this is your choice and your choice alone.
Good Luck, and be strong!!

I'd say that your vet is probably making an accurate diagnosis. I doubt it's irritation, even though that is a much more pleasant thought than cancer. Surgery might not be your only option. Dogs can undergo chemotherapy treatments, but they are expensive. They would almost certainly be able to do chemo treatments at UC-Davis since it is the top vet school in the country. Otherwise, I'd suggest searching for someone who specializes in alternative treatments for pets. The last option is to make her comfortable and happy and do nothing about the tumor. There is no guarantee that any treatment will work.

the vet couldn't do a simple test with a needle and draw some fluid out of it and check to see if there is a possibility if it is benign or malignant? Just had a tumor checked this way on a dogs leg last week and was told it is not cancer. I hope your dog is gonna be fine. I was wondering what kind of dog and how old is it?

Our older dog has a small lump on her neck and one by her ear. They are cysts, which can be normal. We are in Central California, and not sure of any place that could help you besides your vet, or you could find another vet for a second opinion. Do know that you can buy health insurance at most locat pet stores.

It could be a cyst that has ingrown as opposed to other outgrown, lumps, cysts etc.If it is the first one,I encourage you to have a biopsy of it to see if it is malignant or beignin.Dogs do get these on a regular basis and it is usually no more than a pimple or a callcium deposite.I pray you find your answer sweety and good luck to you both.........

i dont think the vet would be lying to you telling you its a tumor when its really not..theres a slim chance..but i would have the tests ran...try calling around to other vets...some put you on payment plans instead of trying to charge you the outrageous bill immediatly
