after being in some evil pain for about 3 weeks... i went to the dentist today and had my tooth ripped out. he gave me percoset for the pain (other teeth are hurting as well) the only problem is, the percosets arent touching the pain at all. my question was. is it safe to take 2 200mg ibuprophen tablets? i took one percoset about an hour ago. i remember the hospital giving me motrin & percosets when I had my daughter but cant remember how far apart they administered it. thanks for any help...as i am in a great deal of evil pain!!! :(

As long as you are taking percoCET rather than percoDAN, it is OK to take ibuprofen with it. Percocet has oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol) in it. The combination will actually do more good than the percocet alone. Percocet has no anti-inflammatory properties, whereas ibuprofen is probably the best and safest anti-inflammatory.

You can take them together as long as you don't worry about upset tummy. Maybe a little food first. The percoset is most likely to upset the tummy. So, if they don't make you sick take them at least every 6 hrs. Then use ice if you can, the swelling causes most the pain. Even if the ice is only on for a few minutes at a time, it will help. Also, try to sleep. Sometimes percoset makes people not sleep. So try the advil for the night and see if that helps, then take the percoset if you can't sleep or it hurts too bad. good luck. I know what it feels like. you can take tylenot too, but advil is better. Just remember a little food if possible, maybe some cream of chicken or chicken broth. Night night.

yes it is fine to mix the 2. just take the percoset and ibuprofen as directed on the labels. you can take them so u take them all at once but i recommend spacing them out, like take the percoset then in a hour or so take the ibuprofen, to maximize ur pain free time. the ibuprofen will actually help the percoset work better because ibuprofen in a anti-inflammatory. the Ibuprofen will make the swelling go down, allowing the percoset to kill any remaining pain. most of Ur pain is probably due to swelling.

if u have doubts call ur doc or the pharmacy they will tell u the same thing. plus they may give u prescription grade ibuprofen, (the prescrition grade is the same as taking four over the counter ibuprofens)

As long as you don't take more than 2400 mg of Motrin a day you're fine with dosage. Most post extraction pain comes from swelling/inflammation which Motrin will help. It just takes a while for the Motrin to start to take effect. You can take the Percocet with the Motrin. The only time you have to watch out is taking Tylenol products with Motrin. If the Percocet has any acetaminophen in it you have to wait at least 3 hours between Motrin and the Percocet administration

I have mixed darvocet and ibuprofen before but I do not know if it is safe. I would call your local pharmacist to see if it is safe. Ibuprofen is an antiflammatory, not a narcotic, so you don't have to worry about doubling up on that class of drug. Your respiratory response should remain intact. You may think about calling your dentist and mentioning the continuance of pain even with the meds. If you can't wait until tomorrow, most dentists have answering services (I work for one) that will allow paging by patients in severe pain. I hope this helps and that you feel better.

Do not mix ANY medications without speaking to your doctor first. It's very, very dangerous.
