Out of respect, we hang our United States Flag at half mass for special circomstances including the death of important government officials. Are there other reasons for hanging the flag beside government officials deaths

Any Time there is a national tragedy it is respectful to hang the flag at half mass.

Flags are also flown at half mass in certain states if a member of the military is from that state and is killed overseas.
