My sister in law hates hers. She says it fishtails and slides on the ice and it is very uncomfortable to ride in and it is noisy; like riding in a can. We are thinking of one because we currently drive a dinky escort and would like more room for when we travel but are tired of sedans. We can't afford much more than the focus wagon. There's only 3 of us in the family. Any other suggestions?

she sort of told you the truth,,they are noisy that's for sure and some of them have give a lot of trouble also,,you might want to look at a dodge caravan or something with room, these are good and reliable,,and they give good service also,,i repair a lot of vehicles, and the dodge,s seem to be doing really good right now,as far as major repairs go,,there not having any problems in that area not yet anyway,,it might be something to consider though,,all the vehicles out there right now are having some kind of a problem,,they always do,,all you can do is pick one that doesn't give much trouble,,and go from there,,good luck hope this help,s.,happy new years.

If you currently have an escort, the focus is not that big of a stretch. The focus replased the escort as Ford's bottom line car, and while they changed the body and name, the reliability, driveability and comfort are similar. If you are looking for a vehicle about the same price with room try a Mazda 3 5 door, or a Toyota Matrix. These vehicles are in the same price range and are made more reliable than the focus, which by the way had 55 recalls it's first year out.

I Like the Focus Wagons....
1st off I would only buy another with the DOHC engine...
The ZTec 2.0 or Mazda 2.3 DOHC motors are both great...
Fuel mileage and get up and go...
With all Service's done when needed these engine's have been going 180,000 to 300,000 miles easy...
Timing belt being the most import item... Needing replaced at every 65,000 miles... I do mine at 75K...

This is a Small car still and yes has road noise and others.
But parts are cheap. and up keep is easy...
Can even get better HorsePower just by adding Cool Air intake and Performance exhaust.. For an added 30hp...

If Noise is something that bothers you. Do what I did... Added DynaMat when installing my stereo system... Also stereo upgrade is very easy in a wagon...

If you want a car close to the size and you want good quailty
Mazda 3, Mazda 6 Wagon
Mercedes Benz E320 Wagon ((Used of corse))) !!!!
Maybe used PT Cruiser Turbo

NO Mitsubishi : Lancer Sportback Wagon

Happy hunting....

I had a focus and traded on an escape my focus was 2005 zx5, it was great, i don't know about the wagon....its a wagon. I traded in on an escape. don't get a fwd if your worried about slipping on ice get a 3.0 intelligent 4wd, its impossible to lose grip. the computer monitors the wheels 5000 times per second, and will actually anticipate slippage and lock in 4wd. price wont be much more than a focus, but discounting will be great and interest will too. butttt mileage won't be the best, whats it gonna be comfort convenence peace of mind, or mileage?

My sister had a Ford Focus. It was extremely noisey and it was a gas hog. She would go through a tank of gas every other day. And it gave her more problems than the shop could keep up on. It was a waiste of money. If you want a cheap good reliable car go with a Toyota Corrola. They last forever and hardly brake down. And they are extremely quite and a smooth ride.

I think the 4 door ones look more and more like the escorts did with every year that goes by.. If you must, wait for the new focus to be released.

In my opinion it's the ugliest car Ford has come up with since the Edsel. Can't give you a whole lot of specifics as I refused to ride in one. Check out a Mazda 3 or the base model Suburu Impreza wagon, they shouldn't be much more expensive.
