This epidemic of depression (and similar conditions) is due to our diet. If possible, try to eat right and l think you will notice a difference. Realize that eating any sugar (yes, ANY) will set up a vicious circle that will cause cravings for more. To break the cycle, you have to go cold turkey off sugar and then stay off it. Knowing the cravings will go away if you hang tough might help. Refined carbohydrates such as bread, pizza, pasta, crackers, chips, etc. are received by the body about the same as sugar and should be treated as if they were sugar - avoided. Nearly all convenience and/or prepared foods at the grocery store contains msg (goes by many names including natural flavor) and msg also sets up cravings to make you want more (that's why they add them). If they don't contain msg, then they contain trans fats or other bad for you fats. Try this for 3 months and see how much better you feel. Eat only vegetables, fruits, eggs, nuts, beans, and a small amount of meats (and if you insist, some old fashioned oatmeal)- known as "whole foods". Foods should not be microwaved. Take fish oil supplements to balance your omega 6/3 ratio, 1 Tablespoon or evalent capsules. A good fresh fish oil does not taste bad at all. Try Carlson's, it has a great reputation. Use only olive oil, or coconut oil (unrefined) - make your own salad dressings. No prepared foods (including cereals), no fast foods. No sodas, sugar, pizza, bread, pasta, rice, corn, or wheat, or any known junk food - jello, etc. Add a bit of exercise and sunshine (as much as possible) and I am pretty sure you will feel a whole lot better. Good luck and try not to let anyone put you on psychotropic drugs - get yourself feeling good the natural way.

Is there anything that you just love doing, knowing for sure that that will make you happy? Try doing some of the things that make you happy.
Also, are there any problems that you are dealing with right now, either socially, academically, monetarily, etc.? Try talking over anything that you're going through with a trusted friend, etc. Sometimes, letting it out helps.
In reality, each of us has our own problems. It may not seem like it on the surface, but it's true. Some people express their feelings on the outside, while others hide them in the inside, struggling internally.

I identify with your feelings. I felt the same way from childhood but am a lot better now. You never said how long you have felt like this. It is serious so perhaps a visit to see your doctor or priest/vicar if you believe in God(or even if you don't actually). If you read some of my answers to previous questions you will see how badly I dealt with my 'emptiness' for want of a better word. Please see your Doctor.

The answer fromsickovit is irresponsible. MAYBE diet can be linked to depression, but is not THE cause. Sounds to me that you should talk to your GP. Not always easy, but you sound depressed and there are people who can help. I suggest quack dieticians aren't amongst them.

Stop trying to FORCE yourself to be happy.
Evaluate your life and what you are doing.
Figure out what YOU enjoy doing - and do THAT instead of whatever else you are doing.
