right click on the file, their should be a list of ways to compress it.
Choose, Add to "File name".rar or .zip
The compressed file should pop up in the same folder.
Now to email it you might need to change the extension (I think yahoo has an issue with forwarding zips and rars)
I usually change the extension to . pdf and then in the email body I tell the receiver to change the extension back before opening.
That should do it.

Also, Bamba is right, the file won't get any smaller.

DON'T EVEN BOTHER! Seriously, the very point of AVI files is that they've already been compressed using decent audio and video codecs. Running them through WinZip or WinRAR won't do anything because *they're already compressed*. It's the same with JPEG image files, they're already compressed using JPEG compression so zipping them up does nothing to the file size. Try it if you don't believe me, it gains you nothing.

I can pretty much guarantee that you're talking about trying to email some ridiculous 700MB DVD rip of a film to one of your friends so let's cut the the chase here: JUST DON'T. You're about to try and stuff some honking great file into someone's inbox, it's ridiculous, what you're about to do is an utter nonsense, who in the h3ll sends files that size by email?

Seriously guy, just burn it to CD and stick it in the post; it'll be quicker, easier and a lot less hassle than dicking about trying to shove something that big down some poor bugger's net connection.

On a PC, open Winzip (you can download it for free). Drag and drop a file onto it. That's all.
