Al Sharpton called James Brown a great role model for black men. He was a felon, a drug, addict, and a woman beater. Which one of these is the role model part?

Well, I'm glad somebody on this forum finally spoke the truth. Our newspaper, for which I unfortunately work but have been on vacation, has promoted the hell out of him. Ford is just barely getting better coverage than Brown. And nowhere in the many articles they've had is the fact mentioned that he was a wife beater, drug addict...the police had to chase him and shoot out his tire to stop him.

Media is biased. I can say that from first-hand experience. Sharpton is our nation's Village Idiot. If Hitler had been Black, Sharpton would be singing his praises. You can break the law, but if you're Black...that's ok. We all have to ignore the pink elephant in the middle of the room. Got to be PC.

You take Al Sharpton serious about everything? James Brown was a lot better known than him, and he never claimed to be an authority on people.

James Brown was good, but I have NEVER heard anyone say he was a great role model

If a role model is someone you'd like for your own
children to follow in their footsteps, then the answer
would be "definitely not James Brown". A lot of
Hollywood is talented, but most are not role models.
Even some of the best pro football and basketball
players have lots of talent, but some take drugs,
get into fights, and I would not consider them role
models.

Al Sharpton calls everyone a role model. I wouldn't put anything up to him.

Yeah, I was gonna say a role model for a career behind bars.
Rev. Al was not looking at the morality of bro Brown, but at his ability to make money. That shows you where the good Reverends heart is.

Well, no - one is perfect. Al Sharpton was well aware of James Brown shortcomings. However, one achievement which he did make was that he overcame his background.
James Brown was abandoned by his parents when he was still a child, he shone shoes to survive. He later became incredibly successful and wealthy and protested against racial segregation. He then went on to become a major influence in western music - give the man some dues.

He was who he was, it depends on which side of the table you're sitting at, we Black people alway's view our roll models by which ones make us laugh the loudest & which ones, cause us to shake our butts the fastest, never really paying attention too which ones make us proud to be who we ''Are''..!!! as a people or a person.
