How would the UK deal with the event of an imminent nuclear threat posed towards it, i cant find any modern information on this, i can only find info that is outdated going back to the Cold War era.

Is there any bunkers situated in the UK, how long would it take until the public was informed about the threat, would leaflets be handed out etc...

It would devestate the U.K more then it would effect nations that are larger like the United States,Russia or India. The effect would like that of Japan except worse since nukes are more powerful and numerous this days.Since the nation is like an island and is more packed in (like Japan) a nuclear attack would carry out the radiation and effect their public faster. And since all nations have more then one nuke these days (excluding North Korea) a retaliatory attack would be difficult. However since they have space capability like China,Japan and India they will see a nuke coming and will do everything possible to shoot it down. There would be no point in shooting it down once it is above their airspace. It would just kill and radiate more people. But missile defense systems are not that advanced as of yet and even th patriot does not help against the new Russian missile. It diverts the nukes so radar picks of different signals and there would be no use and sadly it would hit the land. They would have no option but to have a rataliatory strike and perhaps draft the survivors and cause hell to the nation that used the nuke.

ALL local councils have plans that can / would be implemented IF such an attack was to take place..............I know for a fact that most of London has stuff underground that would be for heads of state, MP's select people etc etc, look at how much the under ground ALWAYS goes over budget etc, also look at some of the railing areas in London, these are entrances to the sub level shelters..........the same but on a much smaller scale are all over the country BUT I can assure you the great unwashed [ie joe public] will NOT be on the list or allowed in................at one time [3 years ago] I read a paper that stated IF there was a nuclear attack on the Plymouth area that ALL local schools had meds to hand out to the kids [supposed to help in the fallout stuff] and was stunned that the teachers would be authorised to hand this medicine out to the kids.......this in a day and age where you can not REALLY even give life saving meds to a child NOT your own......plus when I questioned WHAT the meds where things got very vague..........so trust me stuff is in place, just not for the likes of us...............

The reality is that even if you had time to make a public announcement of an imminent attack, the announcement itself would cause wide spread panic and chaos. While the military and government leaders head for the bunkers, the masses are left to survive on the streets. Hope it never happens.

They gotta teach the population to build their own shelters. I don't think they'd hide it from the population, at least not forever...

Anyway, it'd be better that the population knew and did sth about it, even if that would mean to panic. Panic is a way of survival, u know. They'd be really stupid not to have figured that out by now.
